About the Role
AirconTech HVAC Engineering UK Ltd is looking for an experienced, practical and customer-focused Air Conditioning Service Engineer to support the maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of commercial air-conditioning and HVAC systems.
The successful candidate will work across customer sites in Wrexham and surrounding areas, carrying out planned preventive maintenance, responding to breakdowns, completing system inspections and helping ensure that HVAC equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.
This role is suitable for an engineer with hands-on experience in air-conditioning, refrigeration or commercial HVAC systems who is comfortable working independently at customer locations while coordinating closely with service planners, technical specialists and engineering colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance on air-conditioning systems
- Service commercial and light-industrial HVAC equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and refrigeration faults
- Repair air-conditioning equipment following system failures
- Inspect systems for signs of wear, leakage or reduced performance
- Test system operation following repairs and servicing
- Complete routine maintenance schedules
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
- Respond to customer breakdown calls
- Troubleshoot faults on split and multi-split systems
- Service VRF and VRV air-conditioning systems
- Inspect rooftop and packaged air-conditioning units
- Support maintenance of chilled-water HVAC systems
- Assist with chiller-system inspections when required
- Check refrigerant pressures and operating conditions
- Identify potential refrigerant leaks
- Recover and handle refrigerants in accordance with applicable procedures
- Check compressors, condensers and evaporators
- Inspect motors, fans, pumps and associated components
- Replace defective electrical and mechanical parts
- Check electrical connections and control circuits
- Test thermostats, sensors and control devices
- Support troubleshooting of HVAC control systems
- Inspect filters, coils and drainage systems
- Clean and maintain equipment where required
- Check condensate drainage and pumps
- Monitor system temperatures and pressures
- Assess system efficiency during service visits
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance
- Recommend corrective and preventive maintenance actions
- Support system commissioning and recommissioning
- Assist with installation and replacement projects
- Review manufacturer technical information
- Interpret wiring diagrams and technical drawings
- Follow service procedures and engineering standards
- Maintain appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment
- Ensure replacement parts are correctly identified
- Coordinate parts requirements with service and procurement teams
- Provide clear updates to customers following site visits
- Explain identified faults and recommended actions
- Complete digital or paper-based service reports
- Record equipment details and maintenance history
- Identify recurring technical problems
- Escalate complex faults to specialist engineering teams
- Support root-cause investigations when required
- Follow customer-site health and safety procedures
- Complete risk assessments and method statements where applicable
- Maintain safe working practices at all times
- Support emergency and reactive maintenance activities
- Participate in continuous improvement of service procedures
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant qualification in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, HVAC, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
- At least two years of practical experience servicing air-conditioning or HVAC systems
- Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
- Practical knowledge of refrigeration-cycle principles
- Experience maintaining split, multi-split or commercial HVAC equipment
- Ability to use standard HVAC diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of refrigerant handling procedures
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of planned preventive maintenance
- Experience completing technical service documentation
- Ability to work independently at customer sites
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Professional customer-service skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to prioritise reactive and planned service work
- Willingness to travel between customer locations
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
Preferred Experience
- F-Gas Category 1 certification
- Experience with VRF or VRV systems
- Experience servicing Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, Carrier, Trane or similar equipment
- Knowledge of commercial chiller systems
- Experience with chilled-water systems
- Familiarity with air-handling units
- Knowledge of building-management systems
- Experience with HVAC controls and sensors
- Familiarity with inverter-driven compressors
- Experience performing refrigerant leak checks
- Knowledge of pressure testing and evacuation procedures
- Experience with compressor replacement
- Familiarity with commercial heat-pump systems
- Experience working in industrial or large commercial environments
- Knowledge of energy-efficiency optimisation
- Experience supporting HVAC commissioning
- Familiarity with digital field-service platforms
Pay: £32,000.00-£44,000.00 per year
