Job Summary
We are seeking a Machine Supervisor to join our production team at The Sweet People in Leighton Buzzard.
The Sweet People are the market leader in promotional confectionery merchandise, where we print and produce a wide range of bespoke packaging for our customers.
We are looking for a hands-on Machine Supervisor with good mechanical aptitude and experience operating and setting up production machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of our machine production area, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently, safely and to the required quality standards.
Our machinery includes folding and gluing packaging lines, flow wrapping machines, bagging machines and tube rolling machines.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day running of the machine production area.
- Set up, operate and monitor a range of packaging machinery, including folding and gluing, flow wrapping, bagging and tube rolling equipment.
- Allocate jobs and workload across the machines to meet production deadlines.
- Plan daily production requirements and ensure jobs are completed to schedule.
- Carry out machine changeovers and adjustments between different jobs.
- Identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical and production issues.
- Monitor machine speeds, production output, downtime and waste.
- Ensure finished products meet the required quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production records.
- Ensure machinery and production areas are cleaned and maintained correctly.
- Report machinery faults and maintenance requirements to management.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure jobs move efficiently through production.
- Identify opportunities to improve machine efficiency, reduce downtime and minimise waste.
- Ensure all health & safety procedures are followed within the machine production area.
Team Management Responsibilities
- Plan daily work schedules and rotate staff to meet changing production requirements.
- Supervise, support and provide direction to Machine Operators and production staff.
- Support and train Machine Operators to ensure machinery is operated correctly, safely and efficiently.
- Monitor and manage sickness absence through the PeopleHR system.
- Conduct return-to-work interviews following sickness absence.
- Assist with probation reviews and annual performance reviews where required.
- Address performance or conduct issues in line with the company handbook.
- Conduct inductions and training for new staff.
- Ensure all team members remain up to date with the required training for their areas of responsibility.
- Ensure staff understand and follow relevant SALSA, HACCP and allergen control procedures.
- Participate in the HACCP team as required.

Pay: £28,700.00-£33,900.00 per year
