Position: Class 3 Qualified Senior Building Control Surveyor (Band 3) - MID - Interims

Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6+ Months - 2 days remote, 3 days in WCC
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £318.96 per day
Job Responsibilities
- Manage a range of Building Control projects, including complex and higher-risk buildings
- Review building plans and drawings to ensure they meet Building Regulations
- Carry out site inspections at different stages of construction
- Provide Building Control advice to developers, architects, contractors and residents
- Make technical decisions within your level of competence
- Investigate building control complaints, unauthorised works and dangerous structures
- Take appropriate enforcement action when required
- Prepare notices, reports and supporting documents for enforcement cases
- Attend court and provide expert evidence when required
- Participate in the out-of-hours dangerous structures rota
- Keep accurate records of inspections, decisions and correspondence
- Work with developers, contractors, consultants, residents and Council teams
- Support junior and trainee Building Control Surveyors
- Assist with service improvement and quality assurance activities
- Keep up to date with Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulator requirements
- Provide a professional, safe and customer-focused Building Control service
Person Specification
Essential
- Level 3 Building Inspector registration
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Civil Engineering or a related subject
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB
- Valid Building Safety Regulator registration/licence, or ability to obtain it
- At least 7 years' Building Control experience
- Experience working at Senior Building Control Surveyor or equivalent level
- Experience reviewing plans and carrying out site inspections
- Experience working on complex or higher-risk buildings
- Experience dealing with Building Regulations compliance and enforcement
- Good knowledge of Building Regulations and the Building Act 1984
- Good knowledge of the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulator requirements
- Good knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good report writing and record-keeping skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Building Control systems
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Good problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
- Good customer service and teamwork skills
- Full driving licence and suitable transport, or another suitable means of travel
- Able to work safely on construction sites
- Willing to participate in emergency/out-of-hours duties when required
Desirable
- Local authority Building Control experience
- Experience of higher-risk buildings and BSR requirements
- Experience working on large or complex city-centre developments
- Experience mentoring junior staff
- Knowledge of local government procedures
