We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Buyer to join our growing flooring company. This office-based role is responsible for purchasing flooring products, underlay, trims, adhesives and installation materials, ensuring competitive pricing, timely deliveries and appropriate stock levels.
The ideal candidate will be highly organised, have excellent negotiation and communication skills, and enjoy building strong relationships with suppliers while supporting a fast-paced operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase flooring products, installation materials, tools and related supplies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors and suppliers.
- Source competitive pricing and negotiate costs, delivery schedules and supply agreements.
- Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish inventory as required.
- Coordinate deliveries with suppliers, the warehouse and project coordinators.
- Track purchase orders and follow up on outstanding deliveries.
- Resolve supplier issues, including shortages, damaged goods, pricing discrepancies and returns.
- Work closely with the sales, estimating, warehouse and installation teams to ensure materials are available for scheduled projects.
- Monitor supplier performance, lead times and product availability.
- Assist with forecasting purchasing requirements based on project schedules and historical demand.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and service standards.
- Keep up to date with new flooring products, supplier offerings and market trends.
Skills & Experience
- Previous purchasing or buying experience, ideally within the flooring, construction or building materials industry.
- Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of flooring products, including carpet, laminate, vinyl, tile and installation accessories.
- Experience with stock control and inventory management.
- Understanding of construction or refurbishment project scheduling.
- Familiarity with freight, logistics and supplier coordination.
