Pickering Recreation Club is looking for an Assistant Manager to work alongside our current Manager in the day-to-day operation of the club and bar, ensuring members, guests, visitors and event attendees receive a high standard of customer service.
Ideally the candidate needs to have some knowledge of the club and its surroundings and live locally to assist the Manager when required.
The Assistant Manager will lead by example, support and supervise bar staff, maintain operational standards, and help deliver a welcoming and professional environment throughout the club.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service to members, guests and visitors at all times. Create a friendly, welcoming and professional atmosphere. Handle customer enquiries, requests and complaints in a positive and professional manner. To help promote club events to maximise sales and member engagement.
Bar Operations
- Supervising the daily operation of the bar in the Manger’s absence. Adhere to licensing regulations. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and hygiene within the bar area. Oversee the opening and closing of the club on an evening and weekend when required. Assisting the Manager to open and close the club on occasional weekdays for functions, deliveries etc. Ensure tills are operated correctly and cash handling procedures are followed.
Staff Supervision
- Support the recruitment, induction and training of bar staff. Promote a positive and supportive team culture.
Stock Control
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages. Assist with stock ordering, deliveries and stocktaking. Ensure stock is rotated correctly and wastage is minimised. Maintain accurate records of stock movements where required.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with health and safety and licensing legislation. Follow all club policies and procedures. Report accidents, hazards and maintenance issues promptly. Ensure a safe environment for staff, members and visitors.
Events & Functions
- Assist with club events when required. Support the setup and breakdown of function room. Ensure high service standards are maintained during busy events and peak trading periods.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience in a bar environment. Experience supervising or leading a team. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment. Good organisational and time-management skills. Flexible approach to working hours including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Desirable
- Cellar management experience. First Aid qualification.
Hours of Work
- 21 hours per week (additional hours may be required to cover staff absences, major events etc.) Flexible working pattern including evenings, alternateweekends and some public holidays.
