The Head of Business Operations is responsible for providing structured technical, project and business support across the organisation, with a particular focus on live construction projects, compliance documentation, document control and project handover requirements. The role combines office coordination with practical construction-sector administration and requires a strong understanding of construction terminology, project workflows and the documentation generated throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors, design teams and senior management, the post holder will maintain accurate project records, support BCAR and quality documentation, coordinate technical submissions and ensure information is controlled, traceable and available to project teams. The role will also deputise for the Project / BCAR Coordinator during periods of absence or peak workload.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Previous experience working within the construction sector is essential, ideally in a main contractor, specialist contractor, consultancy or construction project environment.
- Practical understanding of construction project stages, site operations, project terminology and the flow of technical information between site, design and commercial teams.
- Experience managing construction documentation, project records, drawing registers, technical submissions or similar controlled information.
- Strong IT capability, including Microsoft Office applications and confidence learning or using construction document management / common data environment systems.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple project priorities, deadlines and document requests.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to liaise professionally with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and senior management.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- A qualification in construction, construction management, engineering, architectural technology, building surveying, quantity surveying or a related construction discipline is preferred.
- Previous exposure to BCAR processes and construction compliance documentation.
- Experience supporting project handover, O&M manuals, as-built records, quality files or certification close-out is desirable.
- Experience with construction document control platforms, common data environments or project management systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of quality management, health and safety documentation and construction procurement / subcontractor administration would be beneficial.
