The role
We have a great opportunity to join our in-house Legal Services Team in a friendly and supportive environment as a Disrepair Solicitor.
You'll be providing high-quality legal advice and casework on housing disrepair and housing conditions matters, helping Southern Housing and its group partners resolve cases through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and litigation. You'll manage your own caseload of disrepair claims and work closely with Disrepair Paralegals and operational teams across the business.
You'll be involved in preparing legal documentation, advising on repairing obligations and housing legislation, negotiating settlements, delivering legal training and supporting colleagues on housing disrepair matters. You'll also play a key role in helping to reduce legal risk and improve outcomes for residents.
This role is based at either London (Farringdon station) or Croydon, with the option for hybrid working when appropriate and agreed with your manager.
What you'll need:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) with a current practising certificate (essential).
- Experience of housing disrepair and housing conditions litigation (essential). ADR experience is desirable.
- A thorough understanding of landlord and tenant law and housing disrepair claims.
- Experience of managing claims from the pre-action stage through to resolution.
- Strong advocacy, drafting and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience of working with social housing providers, local authorities or public sector organisations (desirable).
- Experience providing support, guidance and knowledge sharing to junior colleagues and wider business teams (desirable).
