Coatings Manager
Based in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
Salary £45,000.00 Per Annum

RCM, a member of the Benx Group and one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist building boards, facades, and through-wall solutions, are seeking an experienced Coatings Manager to join our Operations Department.
Reporting to the Head of Production and Facades, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and optimising coating operations across two manufacturing sites and three paint lines. The role involves overseeing day-to-day performance, quality, capacity, productivity and continuous improvement, while ensuring consistent standards and working practices across both locations. Working closely with Production, Planning, Quality, Technical, Engineering and Maintenance teams, the successful candidate will drive improvements in safety, efficiency, cost and delivery while ensuring all coating operations meet company, customer and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include;
· Lead and manage coating operations across two manufacturing sites and three paint lines, ensuring safe, efficient and consistent performance.
· Manage and support paint line foremen and teams, ensuring appropriate staffing, skills, training and accountability.
· Develop and implement a consistent coatings strategy, operating standards and best practices across both sites.
· Work with Production Planning to manage capacity, workload and priorities, ensuring production and customer delivery requirements are achieved.
· Monitor departmental KPIs, including productivity, efficiency, downtime, quality, rework, labour and material usage.
· Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase capacity, improve quality, reduce waste and control costs.
· Take ownership of coating quality and process control, investigating defects, non-conformances and recurring operational issues.
· Work closely with Technical, Production, Maintenance and Commercial teams to support new products, process improvements and operational requirements.
· Manage relationships with key paint and coating suppliers, including technical support, product performance and improvement opportunities.
· Monitor coating materials, stock and consumable usage, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve cost control.
· Work with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability, preventative maintenance and minimise unplanned downtime.
· Ensure coating operations comply with all relevant health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
· Support and lead investigations into significant safety, environmental, quality or operational incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
· Contribute to longer-term investment and improvement plans for coating facilities and equipment.
Experience/knowledge required;
- Proven management experience within an industrial coatings or manufacturing environment, ideally across multiple sites or production lines.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial coating processes, surface preparation, application, curing, inspection and defect resolution.
- Experience leading supervisors and production teams, including resource, capacity and performance management.
- Demonstrable ability to improve safety, quality, productivity, efficiency and cost performance.
- Experience managing KPIs, budgets, material usage, waste and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good understanding of paint line equipment, maintenance requirements and operational reliability.
- Strong knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Effective leadership, communication, problem-solving and cross-functional working skills.
· Relevant coatings, engineering, manufacturing or management qualifications desirable
