The Senior Finance Officer provides comprehensive financial and administrative support to the Financial Controller, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the finance function across the Group. The role has responsibility for payroll processing, accounting for the Group's property portfolio, credit card reconciliations, and supporting the month-end reporting process. The Senior Finance Officer will also provide cover for other members of the finance team during periods of annual leave and absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Process the Group's payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies.
- Manage the full accounting process for the Group's property portfolio, including posting transactions, reconciliations, income and expenditure reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records for VAT and MTD purposes.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of company credit cards, ensuring all expenditure is supported, accurately coded, and recorded.
- Support the Financial Controller with the month-end close across the Group, in the preparation of financial reports, schedules, and analysis required for monthly management reporting.
- Reconcile bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts.
- Process purchase and sales ledger transactions as required.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
- Support the preparation of information required for year-end accounts and external audits.
- Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting as required.
- Support the wider finance team by providing cover for key finance duties as required, ensuring the continued smooth operation of the finance function.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Group to resolve finance queries and improve financial processes.
- Support the management of employee compliance records, ensuring all required certifications and mandatory checks remain current and compliant.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Financial Controller.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a senior finance or accounts role.
- Experience of payroll processing.
- Strong reconciliation skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.
- Competent user of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members effectively while fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt swiftly to new technologies and evolving regulatory requirements.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
Desirable
- AAT Level 4 qualified or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification.
- Experience of property accounting.

- Knowledge of payroll & CIS legislation and HMRC requirements.
