Overall Purpose of the Role
Aptus Utilities are looking for both experienced LV/HV Cable Jointers and motivated Jointers Mates to join our expanding team working on underground power networks across Northwest.

What You Will Be Doing:
As a Jointer:
- Carrying out LV live and dead jointing
- Completing mains and service jointing and cable terminations
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs
- Supporting LV testing and commissioning activities
- Undertaking HV jointing and terminations up to 11kV (where qualified)
- Installing XLPE, EPR and PILC joints using heat/cold shrink techniques
- Supporting new connections and network upgrades
- Replacing fuses and cut-outs (live and dead)
- Working as part of a team and stepping up as Safety Mate when required
As a Jointers Mate:
- Assisting LV/HV Jointers with cable jointing and terminations
- Supporting site setup, excavation and reinstatement activities
- Handling tools, materials and equipment safely and efficiently
- Acting as Safety Mate and maintaining safe working practices
- Assisting with fault finding and basic repairs under supervision
- Helping with guarding, barriers and traffic/pedestrian safety
- Supporting LV switching operations where authorised
- Ensuring all work areas are kept clean, organised and safe
What We Ask From You:
For Jointers:
- Proven experience in LV/HV cable jointing (DNO/IDNO experience preferred)
- Strong competence in LV live jointing (essential)
- HV experience up to 11kV (preferred)
- Full UK driving licence
- Proactive approach to working outdoors and within site environments
- Strong commitment to health and safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Clear and confident communication skills
For Jointers Mates:
- A genuine interest in developing a career within the power and utilities industry
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Willingness to learn from experienced Jointers and follow instructions
- Safety-focused with a strong work ethic
- Reliable, flexible and positive attitude
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Eagerness to learn new skills and progress within the industry
Desirable Qualifications & Experience (Not Essential)
- NRSWA (SLG) certification
- First Aid training
- Confined Space qualification
- Cable ID / spiking authorisation
- Substation access approval
- Previous experience in construction, utilities or civils
- Basic understanding of electrical or cable systems
