The Old Vicarage is a 36-bed residential dementia care home in North Shields. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Care Assistant to join our committed night team on a permanent basis.
You will play a leading role overnight, ensuring residents feel safe, comfortable and well supported throughout the night.
The Role
This is a permanent, full-time night position working 12-hour shifts on a rolling rota — 3 nights one week, 4 the next (36–48 hours per week).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support your care team colleagues throughout the night shift
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred care and emotional support to residents
- Administer medication accurately and maintain detailed medication records
- Respond promptly to call bells, resident needs and any overnight emergencies
- Keep care records up to date using our electronic care management system
- Complete a detailed and thorough handover at the close of each shift
What We Are Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or actively working towards it
- At least 2 years' experience working in a care environment, including nights
- Experience administering medication, or willingness to undertake a refresher
- A calm, dependable and compassionate approach — particularly in overnight situations
- Strong written communication skills for care records and shift handovers
