We are working with a specialist secondary school in Tower Hamlets that is looking for a Behaviour Mentor to join their team this September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in youth work, mentoring, behaviour support, social care, education or pastoral care who wants to make a real difference. You'll be supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them build confidence, manage their emotions and overcome barriers to learning.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you'll become a trusted adult for pupils who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education or other challenges. You'll provide consistent support throughout the school day, helping pupils regulate their emotions, make positive choices and successfully engage with learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 mentoring and emotional support
- Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
- Supporting pupils during challenging situations using calm, trauma-informed approaches
- Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive decision-making skills
- Leading restorative conversations following incidents or conflict
- Delivering interventions focused on emotional literacy, social skills, anger management and confidence
- Supporting pupils returning from exclusion, reflection rooms or periods of absence
- Contributing to behaviour support plans, EHCP targets and risk assessments
- Recording behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, parents and external professionals
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Youth Work, Mentoring, Social Care, Education or a related subject (desirable)
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD or behaviours that challenge
- Has worked in an SEMH school, PRU, Alternative Provision, Residential Care, Youth Offending Service, youth work, social care or another role with transferable experience
- Has experience delivering 1:1 mentoring or behaviour interventions
- Understands trauma-informed practice, attachment theory and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Has knowledge of restorative practice, positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
- Understands safeguarding risks, including Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), county lines and contextual safeguarding
- Is calm, resilient and able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Has a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential

This specialist secondary school supports boys with SEMH needs, many of whom have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The school has a nurturing, trauma-informed approach where positive relationships, consistency and high expectations are at the heart of everything they do.

The school is based in Tower Hamlets and has excellent transport links via the District Line, DLR and Elizabeth Line.
