Are you passionate about preparing great food and making a positive difference to people's lives? We are looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team within our retirement housing scheme.
Working alongside our Chef, you'll help provide high-quality meals and excellent service to our residents while maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming kitchen environment. This is a rewarding role where your contribution will have a real impact on the wellbeing and daily lives of older people.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will:

Assist the Chef with the preparation and service of meals.

Prepare food and menu items as directed by the Chef.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, food preparation areas and restaurant, following cleaning schedules.

Wash dishes and carry out general and deep cleaning of the kitchen and storeroom.

Serve residents in a friendly and respectful manner, including handling cash and card payments where required.

Help monitor stock levels and support effective stock control.

Understand residents' dietary requirements and communicate any concerns to the Chef.

Ensure kitchen equipment is clean, well maintained and report any faults promptly.

Follow all Health and Safety, Food Safety and company policies and procedures.

Build positive relationships with residents, colleagues and visitors through courteous and respectful communication.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
Essential

Experience working in a kitchen or catering environment.

Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The ability to work independently and use initiative.

An understanding of the importance of following policies and procedures.

Empathy, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting older people.

Flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

A good standard of general education.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required).
Desirable
-
A Food Safety qualification.
-
Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements within a catering environment.

Experience using commercial kitchen equipment and appliances.

Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
