Barbara Ammar Bespoke and Tailoring Services is looking for two experienced and skilled seamstresses/tailors to join our professional alterations and tailoring studio in Bath.
We are looking for reliable, skilled and confident individuals with practical professional experience in clothing alterations, who are able to work accurately and independently to a high standard.
Main responsibilities:
Ladies’ and men’s clothing alterations
Shortening and hemming trousers, dresses and skirts
Taking garments in and letting them out
Sleeve alterations
Zip replacements and general clothing repairs
Working with a variety of fabrics and garment constructions
Confident use of industrial sewing machines and overlockers
Completing alterations accurately and to a professional standard
Maintaining a clean and organised working area
About the role:
This is initially a part-time position of approximately 2–3 days per week (14–21 hours), with the possibility of additional days and hours depending on workload and availability.
We are currently looking for two people to join the business.
As you become familiar with the studio, our clients and our working standards, there may be an opportunity to take on greater responsibility and work more independently within the business.
The ideal candidate will:
Have previous professional experience in clothing alterations, tailoring or dressmaking
Be confident using industrial sewing machines and overlockers
Have a good understanding of garment construction
Be able to complete standard clothing alterations independently
Have excellent attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship
Be reliable, organised and able to manage their workload
Take pride in producing high-quality work
Be comfortable working as part of a small professional studio
Experience with bridal or occasion wear would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Please note that this position requires practical professional sewing and alteration experience and is not suitable for someone looking for entry-level sewing training.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal meeting followed by a practical clothing alteration skills test.
