Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Activities coordinator to organise and oversee engaging recreational programmes within a care home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for 18hrs/week. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a vibrant, inclusive environment that promotes mental, physical, and emotional well-being for residents, including those requiring specialised dementia and Alzheimer's care. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of elderly residents by fostering community spirit and enhancing their quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and implement a diverse programme of activities tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and care needs
- Coordinate group events, outings, and individual activities that promote socialisation and engagement
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff and caregivers to ensure activities align with residents’ health conditions, including dementia and Alzheimer's care requirements
- Maintain detailed records of participation and residents’ preferences to personalise activity plans effectively
- Encourage resident participation through effective communication and personalised engagement strategies
- Supervise activity assistants or volunteers to ensure smooth execution of programmes
- Monitor the safety of all activities, adhering to health and safety regulations within the care environment
- Stay informed about best practices in senior care, dementia care, and caregiving techniques to continually improve programme quality
Skills
- Proven experience in assisted living, nursing home environments or senior care settings
- Knowledge of dementia care and specialised Alzheimer’s care techniques
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect empathetically with elderly residents
- Organisational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to adapt programmes for residents with varying levels of mobility and cognitive function
- Experience working within a care home or similar setting is highly desirable
- Compassionate approach with excellent interpersonal skills aimed at fostering a warm, inclusive community atmosphere
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including healthcare professionals, caregivers, and family members
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £12.71-£12.73 per hour
