Caretaker
Grade 5 | £25,584 - £27,269 per annum
37 Hours weekly (Shift - 5 days over 7 day week)

We are looking for an Estate Caretaker to join our Housing Maintenance team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining the appearance, safety and cleanliness of our housing estates across the borough, helping to improve customer satisfaction and community wellbeing.
Working as part of a dedicated area team, you will provide a high-quality caretaking service across communal housing environments, including high-rise and low-rise blocks, communal areas and surrounding housing land.
Your responsibilities will include:

Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of communal areas, estate grounds and housing environments.

Carrying out inspections and reporting repairs and health and safety concerns.

Undertaking minor maintenance and repair tasks.

Removing litter, graffiti, fly-tipping and bulky waste.

Assisting with fire safety checks and estate inspections.

Supporting residents with basic housing-related enquiries.

Working closely with Housing colleagues, contractors and partner services to resolve local environmental issues.

Operating across different locations throughout the borough as required.
You will also play an important role in helping to create safer communities by identifying and reporting environmental concerns, anti-social behaviour issues and safeguarding concerns.
We are looking for someone who:

Has experience of working in a caretaking, maintenance, grounds maintenance or similar role, ideally within housing or public services.

Has good practical skills and can undertake basic repairs and maintenance tasks.

Communicates effectively with residents, colleagues and partner agencies.

Can work independently and use their own initiative.
-
Remains calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.

Is committed to delivering excellent customer service.

Has an understanding of equality, diversity and health and safety responsibilities.

Is flexible and willing to work across different locations and as part of a team.
Essential Requirements

Full valid driving licence.
-
Willingness to undertake a driving assessment to operate a 3.5-tonne vehicle.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Awareness of Health and Safety and Fire Safety requirements.

Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development.
-
The post is subject to a DBS check and driving licence verification.
Additional Information
This role requires flexibility to work 5 days from 7, including weekends and bank holidays where required by the service.
