Wellington School is seeking an enthusiastic German Language Assistant to join our thriving Modern Foreign Languages Department from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a fluent German speaker to play a key role in supporting pupils’ language development within a busy and successful day and boarding school in Wellington, Somerset.
Working alongside experienced teachers and fellow language assistants in French and Spanish, you will help pupils develop confidence, accuracy and fluency in spoken German through engaging, interactive and supportive practice.
You will work closely with teaching staff in the classroom and in small group or one-to-one intervention sessions, helping pupils from Key Stage 3 through to A Level to strengthen their communication skills and deepen their cultural understanding.
We are looking for someone who can build excellent relationships with young people aged 11 - 18 and who can act as a positive role model for language learning, bringing energy, authenticity and cultural insight into every interaction.
About the role
You will:
- Support German language learning across KS3–KS5
- Lead speaking practice in small groups and one-to-one sessions
- Work collaboratively with MFL teachers in and out of the classroom
- Support revision, intervention and enrichment activities
- Help develop pupils’ confidence, fluency and cultural awareness
- Contribute to a positive, engaging and ambitious language-learning environment
About the Department:
The Modern Foreign Languages Department is a collaborative, experienced and highly supportive team of nine specialist teachers. French, Spanish and German are taught up to A Level, with a strong emphasis on communication, ambition and enjoyment.
The department benefits from excellent facilities, including five dedicated language classrooms and specialist tutorial spaces for assistant-led sessions. Language assistants play a central role in supporting pupils across all key stages, including weekly speaking sessions at A Level and targeted support throughout the school.
Accommodation and wider involvement
This role can be residential, with accommodation and meals provided. While not essential, residential living offers the opportunity to be fully immersed in school life and boarding provision.
Language Assistants are encouraged to take part in wider school activities where possible, including clubs, trips, sport, drama and music, contributing to the vibrant co-curricular life of the School.
