Community Transport Driver
Location: Steer Community Transport, Canolfan Maerdy, Tairgwaith
Hours: 25 hours per week
Salary: To be discussed at interview
Contract: Grant-funded until 31 March 2027, with the intention to extend subject to funding.

Steer Community Transport is part of Canolfan Maerdy, a charity and not-for-profit based in Tairgwaith. For the past eight years, we have been supporting residents across the Amman and Swansea Valleys by providing reliable transport to hospital and GP appointments, shopping trips, and other essential journeys.
We also operate Bws Dim Ffws, a scheduled circular bus service connecting Tairgwaith, Pontardawe, Rhiwfawr and Brynamman.
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Community Transport Driver who shares our commitment to supporting local people. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference while working in a relaxed, supportive and flexible environment.
About the Role
As a Community Transport Driver, you will play an important role in delivering safe, reliable and professional transport services across the local community. Your duties will include:
- Driving the Bws Dim Ffws scheduled service to cover staff holidays.
- Transporting passengers to hospital, GP and other appointments using our community cars.
- Driving the minibus for community trips, group bookings and activities.
- Carrying out vehicle cleaning and basic maintenance tasks during quieter periods.
- Providing excellent customer service to all passengers.
- Handling fares and maintaining accurate records where required.
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement (essential).
- Have a flexible approach to work, as schedules can change at short notice.
- Be available to work between 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.
- Enjoy working as part of a small team while also being able to use their own initiative.
- Have excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Be confident handling cash.
- Be caring, patient and committed to helping others.
- Be a Welsh speaker (desirable but not essential).
