Make a Difference for Children and Young People with Hearing Impairment
Are you a qualified Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People looking for an exciting leadership opportunity?
Calderdale Council is seeking a highly experienced and passionate Hearing Impairment (HI) Team Coordinator to join our Specialist Inclusion Team (SIT). This is a senior leadership role that offers the opportunity to shape inclusive practice across the borough, influence strategic development, and improve outcomes for children and young people with hearing impairment. This is an exiting opportunity to job share with our existing, experienced HI Team coordinator who is reducing her hours to 0.4 FTE to facilitate a phased retitrement. As a key member of the SIT Senior Leadership Team, you will lead the development of high-quality specialist practice, support schools and educational settings to build capacity, and ensure children and young people with hearing impairment receive the right support at the right time.
About the Role
Working collaboratively with schools, families, health professionals and other partners, you will:
Lead and champion excellent practice in the identification, assessment and support of children and young people with hearing impairment.
Provide specialist advice to senior leaders across the Local Authority.
Develop and deliver training, guidance and resources to support inclusive practice in schools and educational settings.
Lead and contribute to strategic SEND developments, policy implementation and service improvement.
Oversee specialist assessment processes and quality assurance systems.
Build strong partnerships with schools, families and multi-agency colleagues.
Line manage and support a team of specialist staff.
Contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and reviews.
Deputise for the SEND SIT Manager when required.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking an inspirational leader who can combine specialist expertise with strategic vision.
Essential Requirements
You will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Hold the mandatory qualification as a Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (QToD).
Have substantial experience supporting children and young people with SEND, particularly those with hearing impairment.
Demonstrate excellent teaching practice and a strong track record of improving outcomes.
Have some experience of leadership and/or management, including supporting and developing staff.
Possess a strong understanding of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice and Equality Act.
Have experience in SEND assessment, quality assurance and specialist advisory work.
Be confident in developing strategy, leading service improvement and working across agencies.
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
