About Barnet and Southgate College
We change lives, empower individuals and connect communities.
We are an ambitious, forward-thinking further education college in North London, proud to serve diverse communities across Barnet, Southgate and beyond. Our 2030 Vision is bold: to be a leading provider of learning and skills development, fostering exceptional educational experiences, driven by innovation, collaboration and excellence.
Our Essential Skills provision sits at the heart of learner success across the College. Maths underpins progression into employment, higher education and further study, and the Curriculum Manager for Maths plays a pivotal role in making sure that 16-18 learners on Education Programmes for Young People leave with the qualifications and confidence they need. You will be joining a directorate with strong senior backing, clear support structures and a genuine commitment to giving its leaders the conditions to succeed.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Leading the team: Line manage, coach and develop maths curriculum staff across sites, setting high expectations, managing performance effectively and building a motivated team committed to learner success.
- Curriculum innovation: Design and develop an innovative, evidence-based maths curriculum that engages 16-18 learners on Education Programmes for Young People, drawing on up-to-date research, flexible delivery approaches and a deep understanding of how to make maths meaningful and accessible.
- Raising standards: Set and monitor challenging improvement targets, lead developmental lesson observations and learning walks, and use quality reviews, learner voice and data to drive effective improvement strategies.
- Learner outcomes: Ensure every learner is placed on the right course, supported through purposeful ILPs and academic tutoring, and progressing with the confidence and support needed to achieve their maths qualification.
- Job share working: Work collaboratively and effectively with your job share partner to ensure continuity of leadership, consistent communication with staff and learners, and seamless management of the area across sites.
- Quality and self-assessment: Lead the self-assessment process and quality improvement planning for the maths area, contributing to broader Essential Skills quality assurance and inspection readiness.
- Wider management: Contribute to College-wide management responsibilities including duty rotas, strategic planning and cross-college initiatives, and deputise for the Director of Essential Skills as required.
