We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a welcoming primary school setting.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, proactive and confident in supporting a child’s academic, emotional and social development, while encouraging independence wherever possible.
The Role
The successful candidate will:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Year 3 pupil with ASD throughout the school day.
- Support the pupil with morning routines, transitions between lessons and playground activities.
- Help organise her desk area, belongings and learning aids.
- Support her to settle into lessons and begin independent learning tasks.
- Encourage independence by stepping back and allowing her to work independently when appropriate.
- Adapt learning activities to meet her individual needs, including shared writing and use of a laptop.
- Provide access to a quiet space when required to support focus and engagement with learning.
- Oversee movement and sensory breaks, using sensory cards to help recognise and manage periods of overwhelm.
- Support the development of self-regulation, social awareness, personal space and turn-taking skills.
- Work collaboratively with the school's Occupational Therapist and Speech & Language Therapist, helping to implement strategies within the classroom and playground.
- Encourage positive peer relationships and friendships.
- Contribute to daily communication with parents through the pupil's home-school communication book.
- Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to ensure consistent and effective support.

- Able to build positive relationships with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Proactive but understands the importance of promoting independence rather than creating dependence.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with teachers, therapists and parents.
- Passionate about helping children develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
