Job Summary
The Activities Director plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in a nursing home, care home, or assisted living facility. This position involves planning, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities that promote social interaction, physical well-being, and cognitive stimulation for seniors, including those with dementia. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for senior care and demonstrate exceptional communication skills to effectively connect with residents and their families.
Duties
- Develop and organise a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests and needs of residents, ensuring inclusivity for all abilities.
- Coordinate with staff to facilitate activities and ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
- Communicate regularly with residents to gather feedback on activities and make necessary adjustments to enhance engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and activity outcomes to assess effectiveness.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to integrate therapeutic activities that support residents' physical and mental health.
- Foster a warm and welcoming environment that encourages socialisation among residents.
- Plan special events and outings that enrich the community experience for residents.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar role within a nursing home, care home, or assisted living environment is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of senior care principles, particularly in relation to dementia care.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with seniors, families, and staff members.
- A compassionate approach to care, demonstrating patience and empathy towards residents' needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated to initiate activities independently.
- Relevant qualifications or training in recreational therapy or gerontology would be an advantage.
