Subcontract Coordinator – Manufacturing / Fabrication
Location: Ossett, West Yorkshire
Hartwell Manufacturing is a family-run engineering business with nearly 50 years of experience delivering high-quality acoustic enclosures and heavy steel fabrication projects. From our Ossett headquarters, we support clients in the power, data centre and industrial sectors with engineered solutions built on precision, collaboration and reliability. The culture is hands-on, team-focused and proud of the work we produce.
As demand continues to increase, so does the volume of specialist subcontract work required alongside our core manufacturing operations.
We are looking for a Subcontract Coordinator with experience in a manufacturing, engineering or fabrication environment to manage the day-to-day coordination of external subcontractors supporting live projects.
This is not a purely administrative role. You will need to be comfortable working with technical information, discussing drawings with subcontractors, liaising with our Drawing Office and ensuring outsourced work is delivered on time and to the required quality standard.
An ex-fabricator who has moved into an office, planning, coordination or supervisory role would be particularly well suited, although this is not essential.
The Role
You will work closely with Production, Drawing Office, Purchasing, Projects and Engineering, acting as the main day-to-day link between Hartwell and its subcontractors.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating subcontractors across multiple live manufacturing and fabrication projects
- Reviewing drawings and technical information with subcontractors and resolving queries with the Drawing Office
- Liaising with Purchasing and coordinating deliveries to and from subcontractors
- Monitoring progress against programme and proactively chasing delays
- Visiting subcontractors to check progress, delivery dates and quality
- Maintaining clear records and providing regular updates to internal teams
About You
We are looking for someone with a practical understanding of manufacturing or fabrication and the confidence to deal directly with subcontractors and technical teams.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or a similar technical environment
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers or production activity
- Confidence reading and discussing engineering or fabrication drawings
- Strong planning, scheduling and organisational skills
- The ability to manage multiple live requirements and identify potential delays early
- A full UK driving licence, due to regular subcontractor visits
You do not need to be a Design Engineer, but you must be technically comfortable enough to discuss drawings and fabrication requirements and know when to escalate technical queries internally.
Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Free parking
- On-site gym
- On-site parking
