Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Mason to lead and support our Masonry team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of masonry work, including the cutting and shaping of stone using a range of hand and power tools, working from drawings and templates to achieve both textured and polished finishes in line with design specifications. You may also be involved in more intricate work such as carving figures, lettering, or detailed pattern work.
As Head Mason, you will take a leading role in supervising and mentoring other masons, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards. You will be expected to manage workflow on site, and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity at all times.
Responsibilities
- Leading and supervising the masonry team to ensure high-quality workmanship and efficient project delivery
- Operating hand tools, power tools, and specialised masonry equipment safely and effectively
- Measuring, cutting, and shaping materials with precision, and reviewing the work of team members to maintain standards
- Planning and coordinating workflow, including delegation of tasks and prioritising project stages
- Ensuring work areas are clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced masons, providing guidance on techniques and best practices
- Monitoring quality and progress, identifying issues early, and implementing solutions
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in stonemasonry, including supervising or leading a team
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialised masonry equipment safely and effectively
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications accurately
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to oversee quality across a project
- Physical fitness to perform manual labour in various weather conditions
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to support and guide less experienced masons
- Valid relevant qualifications or certifications are advantageous but not essential
