About the Role
Elevate Mechanical & Electrical Ltd is looking for an experienced Accounts Administrator / Bookkeeper to join our Cannock team.
As the business continues to grow, we are bringing more of our day-to-day finance function in-house and want someone who can take genuine ownership of it.
This is not a junior data-entry role. You will be responsible for keeping Xero accurate and up to date, managing the day-to-day accounts function and working closely with the Directors and our external chartered accountants.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate bookkeeping in XeroProcess and code purchase invoicesRaise sales invoicesManage purchase and sales ledgersComplete bank, credit card and supplier reconciliationsPrepare supplier and subcontractor payment runsCarry out credit controlProcess expenses and company card transactionsMaintain VAT records and assist with VAT returnsMaintain CIS records and assist with CIS returnsSupport payroll preparation and inputReconcile subcontractor accounts and paymentsAllocate costs accurately to projectsMaintain records for applications for payment, contract invoicing and retentionsSupport month-end processes and management informationPrepare information for our external accountantsLiaise with suppliers, subcontractors, customers and the wider teamProvide general office and administrative support where required
What We’re Looking For
You should have:
Strong practical bookkeeping or accounts experienceConfident, hands-on experience using XeroExperience with purchase and sales ledgersStrong reconciliation skillsA good understanding of VATGood Microsoft Excel skillsExcellent attention to detailStrong organisational skillsThe ability to manage your own workloadA proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies
AAT Level 3 or Level 4 would be beneficial, although candidates qualified by experience are equally welcome.
Previous experience within construction, Mechanical & Electrical, contracting or a subcontractor environment would be highly advantageous, particularly experience with:
CISConstruction VAT and Domestic Reverse ChargeSubcontractor accountsProject/job costingApplications for payment and retentionsPayroll support
We are more interested in strong practical experience than qualifications alone.
The Opportunity
This is a new in-house position with the opportunity to become the go-to person for the day-to-day accounts function.
You will work directly with the Directors, have the opportunity to improve processes and become an important part of the business as Elevate continues to grow.
Our external chartered accountants will continue to manage statutory accounts, corporation tax and specialist tax matters, while you ensure the underlying records are accurate, current and well organised.
Salary: £30,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualificationsLocation: Cannock, StaffordshireFull-time | Office-based
