We are looking for a motor vehicle technician to join the friendly team at our Vauxhall dealership in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
We’re looking for technicians at all levels, and if you’ve never worked in a main dealer environment before, don’t worry – You’ll be supported by our friendly management team as well as your colleagues, and full training will be provided, allowing you to take your career to the next level.
Key Duties
As a service technician working at Smiths Vauxhall, your role will include, but not be limited to:
- Completing scheduled servicing and maintenance
- Carrying out basic diagnostics and repairs
- Performing electronic vehicle health checks
- Working closely with the front-of-house service team to keep them updated on job progress.
In addition, Senior Technicians will:
- Carry out more complex diagnostics and repairs (e.g. gearbox replacement)
Master Technicians will be responsible for:
- Carrying out more challenging diagnostics and repairs
- Liaising with both the customer & vehicle manufacturers
- Coaching & supporting colleagues to ensure correct methods are used
- Working closely with the front-of-house service team to keep them updated on job progress and to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Being a qualified MOT tester would be beneficial, but is not required. If you aren’t currently qualified but are interested in becoming an MOT tester, we are happy to provide the relevant training.
Salary, Benefits, and Working Hours
The salary for this role depends on experience and qualifications:
- Service Technician: Up to £36,000 OTE
- Senior Service Technician: Up to £40,000 OTE
- Master Technician: Up to £44,500 OTE
Standard working hours are up to 44.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. We are also happy to discuss flexible working arrangements that work for both you and us.

Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a fully-trained, experienced motor vehicle technician, meaning you will:
- Have a relevant technical qualification
- Have at least 12 months of experience working in a similar role
- Have good communication skills
- Be comfortable using a computer
- Have high levels of honesty and integrity, and take pride in providing excellent customer service
- Enjoy working as part of a team and take a flexible approach to your work
- Have a full UK driving licence.
