Role Overview
We are seeking a practical, reliable and experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance & Plant Operative. This role is to support both property maintenance across a mixed residential and commercial properties in Leicestershire and surrounding areas; aswell as plant/equipment operations across our construction-site portfolio. The role combines reactive and planned maintenance, general repair work, plant checks, equipment movement, yard duties and site support.
The successful candidate will be confident working independently, managing multiple tasks, communicating professionally with tenants, clients, site teams and supervisors, and taking ownership of safe, compliant and well-documented maintenance activity.
Key Responsibilities:
· Property maintenance: Carry out general repairs across residential and commercial properties, including plumbing, basic electrical repairs, carpentry, painting, decorating, patch plastering, tiling, fixtures, fittings, locks, doors, skirting, shelving and minor refurbishment works.
· Plumbing and hot water systems: Complete general plumbing repairs including leaks, blockages, pipework, taps, toilets and showers, and support hot water troubleshooting. Where qualified, complete boiler servicing and CP12 Gas Safety Certificates.
· Electrical support: Undertake minor electrical repairs such as sockets, lighting and tripping circuits, and support EICR inspections where appropriately qualified.
· Plant and equipment operation: Operate, move, load, unload and maintain plant and site equipment such as MEWPs, pallet trucks, podiums, site boxes, construction tools, heaters, fans, ladders, distribution trolleys and cutting enclosures.
· Plant checks and compliance: Complete daily safety checks, routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on plant and equipment, ensuring PUWER, LOLER and company safety requirements are followed where applicable.
· Yard and site support: Keep yard, storage and work areas clean, organised and safe; manage materials and stock movement; prepare equipment for site use; and support site teams with deliveries and collections.
· Compliance records: Maintain accurate job notes, inspection records, certificates, booking system updates, safety checks and compliance logs, including gas, electrical and legionella records where relevant.
· Health and safety: Follow company health and safety policies, RAMS, COSHH and PPE requirements, identify hazards and recommend improvements.
· Emergency and reactive response: Respond promptly to urgent issues such as leaks, electrical faults, boiler breakdowns, plant failures and site equipment needs, prioritising work effectively.
· Communication and service: Communicate clearly and professionally with tenants, clients, contractors, supervisors and colleagues, providing updates and escalating issues where required.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
· Strong practical multi-trade background, ideally covering plumbing, electrical repairs, general maintenance, carpentry and basic refurbishment work.
· Experience operating, checking or maintaining plant, tools or construction-site equipment.
· Full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel between sites and properties.
· Good understanding of health and safety requirements, including RAMS, COSHH, PPE and safe systems of work.
· Ability to complete accurate documentation, job records, certificates, booking system updates and inspection logs.
· Good communication skills and the ability to work professionally with tenants, clients, site teams and colleagues.
· Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to prioritise urgent call-outs, planned works and operational tasks.
· Practical problem-solving skills and confidence diagnosing faults or escalating specialist issues when needed.
· Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling, outdoor work and a varied hands-on role.
· Basic IT skills to complete reports and use company tablets or job management systems.
Desirable Qualifications
· NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing, Plant Maintenance, Maintenance Operations or equivalent.
· Electrical Level 2/3 qualification, 18th Edition or inspection and testing qualification such as 2391, 2394 or 2395.
· Gas Safe registration for boiler servicing and CP12 certification.
· Legionella testing experience.
· PAT testing experience.
· Forklift, MEWP or telehandler experience/certification.
· Basic HVAC knowledge.
· Experience with kitchens, bathrooms, small refurbs, tiling, plastering, decorating and wider general building maintenance.
