Senior HR Manager / Head of HR
Aura Care Living – Cirencester
Full-time | £40,000–£45,000 depending on experience
The Role
Aura Care Living is looking for an exceptionally capable, calm and commercially astute HR professional to take a hands-on lead across our care homes.
This is not simply an HR administration role. We need someone with the judgement, intelligence and confidence to work directly with the owner, oversee HR standards across both homes, support and challenge managers, and ensure that recruitment, staffing, training and people processes are being managed properly.
For the right individual, there is significant scope to develop this into a Head of HR / HR Director-level position with greater responsibility and remuneration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee HR across both care homes.
- Take an active role in care-home recruitment, including advertising, candidate screening, interviews, offers and onboarding.
- Ensure recruitment processes, personnel files and associated administration are accurate, compliant and properly maintained.
- Oversee and scrutinise staff rotas, sickness, absence, holidays and staffing levels.
- Work with Home Managers to identify staffing problems before they become operational issues.
- Monitor recruitment performance and ensure vacancies are being filled effectively.
- Oversee staff training programmes and ensure required training is completed, recorded and kept up to date.
- Monitor the performance and effectiveness of managers, following up where standards or agreed actions are not being delivered.
- Maintain strong HR processes, documentation and record keeping across the homes.
- Support employee relations matters and provide sensible, measured HR advice.
- Attend senior management and Board meetings, producing accurate professional minutes and following up agreed actions.
- Work directly with the owner as a trusted senior HR resource, providing clear information rather than simply escalating problems.
- Help create greater accountability, consistency and professionalism across both homes.
The Person
We are looking for someone who is highly competent, organised, calm under pressure and naturally astute.
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- Ideally 5+ years' relevant HR experience.
- Strong experience of recruitment within care homes or the wider adult social care sector.
- Excellent recruitment and interview administration skills.
- A good understanding of the staffing challenges within residential care.
- Strong knowledge of rotas, sickness/absence management and day-to-day HR operations.
- The confidence to question information and check that managers and homes are doing what they say they are doing.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies or emerging problems.
- The maturity to work directly with the owner and senior management team.
- Excellent written English and the ability to take high-quality Board and management meeting minutes.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to oversee several priorities simultaneously.
- A calm, discreet and professional manner.
An HR graduate or CIPD-qualified/part-qualified candidate would be attractive. A paralegal or legal background would also be particularly useful because of the level of documentation, judgement, minute-taking and attention to detail required.
Senior-Level Opportunity
The initial salary is expected to be around £40,000, with scope to approximately £45,000 or potentially higher for an outstanding candidate who can genuinely operate at Head of HR/HR Director level.
For that person, the position could become a key right-hand role to the owner: overseeing HR across both homes, driving recruitment, scrutinising management performance and training, and making sure agreed standards are actually being delivered.
What Success Looks Like
We want someone who does not need constant supervision. They should be able to walk into a situation, understand what is happening, identify what does not look right and calmly ensure it is corrected.
The right person will combine care-sector experience with intelligence, judgement, attention to detail and a very high level of personal organisation. They will be approachable and supportive, but sufficiently confident to hold managers to account when necessary.
Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
