About the Role
As a Support Worker, you'll provide high-quality, young person-centred, trauma-informed support that promotes safety, independence, and positive outcomes.
You'll build trusting, professional relationships while providing practical and emotional support, helping young people to achieve the goals identified within their individual support plans.
At Youth Hubz, we use a relationship-based approach and encourage staff to apply the PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) to help young people feel safe, respected and valued.
Success in this role isn't measured by completing tasks—it's measured by the positive relationships you build and the progress young people make towards safe, independent and fulfilling lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, professional relationships with young people.
- Support young people to develop practical independent living skills, including budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry and tenancy readiness.
- Encourage engagement with education, employment, apprenticeships, training and volunteering.
- Promote emotional well-being and healthy lifestyles.
- Support young people to access health, education, employment and community services.
- Deliver structured key work sessions.
- Promote young people's voice, choice and independence.
- Contribute to the development and review of support plans and risk assessments.
- Maintain accurate, objective and timely electronic records.
- Recognise, respond to and report safeguarding concerns.
- Always maintain professional boundaries.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, personal advisers, families (where appropriate) and partner agencies.
- Participate in supervision, team meetings and mandatory training.
- Follow Youth Hubz policies and procedures.
Essential Criteria
We're looking for people who can demonstrate:
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
- A genuine passion for improving the lives of young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and young person-centred practice.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and recording skills.
- Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgement and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Confidence using IT systems and maintaining accurate written records.
- Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required for the role).
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
- Experience within Supported Accommodation, Residential Childcare, Leaving Care, Housing Support or Youth Work.
- Experience supporting looked after children, care leavers or unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, contextual safeguarding, child exploitation, attachment and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- Experience contributing to support plans, risk assessments, and electronic recording systems.
- Current First Aid qualification.
- Experience working collaboratively with local authorities and multi-agency professionals.
