We are an award-winning local charity supporting adults & young people with learning disabilities and additional needs/ mental health support needs, through an array of enterprises, including horticulture. We offer support for practical skills, wellbeing activities and community engagement.
We are currently recruiting for two permanent positions within our friendly and dedicated team.
Morning Position
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00 am – 12.00 noon
20 hours per week
£12.71 per hour
This role includes collecting trainees from their homes and transporting them safely to Sailship before working alongside them throughout the morning, supporting gardening, horticultural and site maintenance activities.
Afternoon Position
Hours: Monday to Friday, 1.00 pm – 6.00 pm
30 hours per week
£12.71 per hour
This role involves working alongside our trainees during the afternoon, supporting gardening, horticultural and site maintenance activities before transporting them safely home at the end of their day.
About the Role
These are not simply driving or gardening roles.
Every member of the Sailship team actively supports adults/young people with learning disabilities/mental health support needs to build confidence, independence and practical life skills through meaningful activities.
Working as part of our supportive team, you will help maintain our beautiful gardens and learning environment whilst encouraging trainees & participants to participate, achieve and enjoy being part of the Sailship community.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely transport trainees using the charity's passenger vehicle. (Manual transmission)
- Carry out daily vehicle safety checks.
- Support adults with learning disabilities during practical gardening and site maintenance activities.
- Assist with the upkeep and presentation of the Sailship site and gardens.
- Encourage confidence, independence and participation.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and professionalism.
- Work positively as part of the wider Sailship team.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving license. (C1/D1 essential)
- Confident driving a manual transmission passenger vehicle (Renault Trafic Sport).
- Able to meet the driving requirements of the charity's motor insurance policy.
- Practical gardening, grounds maintenance or general maintenance experience.
- Friendly, patient and reliable with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors throughout the year.
- Commitment to safeguarding vulnerable adults.
Desirable
- Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities.
- MIDAS Minibus Driver training (or willingness to undertake training).
- Basic horticultural or maintenance qualifications.
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
