We are seeking a cook/chef for our 12 bed mental health care home in Westcliff on Sea.
30 hours a week
Mon - Fri 8am - 2pm.
Overtime can be offered on some weekends.
Job Description
Post Title: Cook/Chef
Responsible to: Duty Nurse for each shift, overall responsible to Manager
Objective: To organise and control the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with Environmental Health regulations.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation
1. Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
2. Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary and consider the preferences of individual Clients.
3. Liaise with the Home Manager when planning / costing menus to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods.
4. Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
5. Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures.
6. Ensure stock rotation. Order stocks and check deliveries, and check and value stocks as required by the Home Manager.
7. Supervise and instruct Staff Members in the use of kitchen equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
8. Conduct basic food hygiene training for all Care Staff involved in handling and delivery of food.
9. Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
10. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
11. Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
12. Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively.
13. Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, colleague, self or another.
14. Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
15. Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment, or any potential hazard.
16. Promote safe working practice in the Care Home.
17. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Home.
18. Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
19. Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and on your return to work from all periods of absence.
20. Ensure the security of the Care Centre is always maintained.
21. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
22. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
23. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
