Purpose of the Role: The Laboratory Support Associate is a critical enabling role within the Advanced Materials Innovation Lab, operating at the forefront of the client’s product development, 2D-material characterisation, and next-generation materials engineering. Reporting to the CBRE Laboratory Services Coordinator, this position ensures the seamless day-to-day running of a highly specialised cleanroom and research environment by delivering safe waste management, experiment set-up and breakdown, housekeeping, chemical and gas logistics, and compliance support. The role requires a practical appreciation of the unique hazards, equipment, and protocols associated with novel-material research, including CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) systems, ultra-high-purity gas handling, nanomaterial containment, and ISO-class cleanroom disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness and order across cleanroom and laboratory environments.
Replenish laboratory consumables and support gowning areas.
Configure experiment workstations and support experiment set-up and breakdown activities.
Prepare and deliver samples to characterisation suites according to researcher requirements.
Manage laboratory waste streams and coordinate waste collections.
Receive, store and manage specialty gases, cryogens, chemicals and laboratory consumables.
Maintain chemical and inventory management systems and ensure materials are available for researchers.
Support laboratory equipment maintenance, facilities coordination and researcher requests.
Conduct laboratory inspections and support health, safety and compliance activities.
Contribute to sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience:
Experience
Experience in a laboratory support, technician, or facilities role.
Previous experience in a cleanroom or semiconductor/materials science environment.
Hands-on familiarity with CVD, PVD, or ALD process equipment (support or operator level).
Experience handling nanomaterials or engineered particles under containment protocols.
Technical Skills
Proficient in safe handling and storage of flammable, toxic and corrosive chemicals.
Ability to change and connect compressed gas cylinders.
Familiarity with liquid nitrogen safe handling procedures.
Basic operation and first-line maintenance of laboratory vacuum and cooling equipment.
Competent user of a chemical inventory or LIMS system.
Compliance & Safety
COSHH awareness training (Level 2 or equivalent).
Understanding of DSEAR and flammable atmosphere controls.
ISO 14644 cleanroom gowning discipline and particle-control behaviour.
IOSH Working Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
Nanomaterial or nanoparticle handling training.

Working Conditions
Work is carried out predominantly within cleanrooms,chemical fume cupboards and gas-handling areas. Full PPE is required fordesignated tasks. The role involves manual handling of gas cylinders, chemicalcontainers and laboratory equipment. Shift patterns may include early starts,late finishes or weekend cover to support research operation
