We are one of the leading independent building material suppliers in the East Midlands. We have been established for over 37 years and operate out of a 2.5-acre site in Ilkeston. We sell heavy side building materials, landscaping and timber materials to the trade and public.
Yard Supervisor Role
We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on teamwork. You will be responsible for leading a team of Yard operatives.
Customers and drivers will regularly be around the yard, so having good communication skills is important as you will be interacting directly with them.
You will be based outside in the yard where you will lead a team of yard operatives that work in a safe and efficient environment so you will be supervising the yard operations to play a vital role in our continued success.
Yard supervisor responsibilities include:
1. Monitor to ensure daily checks are being carried out on equipment and ensure defects are reported and actioned.
2. Monitor the yard operative to ensure they are carrying out daily area walk around checks to maintain a safe and clean yard.
3. Monitor the picking process to ensure picked orders are getting checked.
4. To ensure the yard operative follows the goods in process and stock is put away in a timely manner.
5. Supervise yard operations to ensure plant & vehicle movements are happening safely.
6. Monitor yard operations to ensure we follow the Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
7. Audit and record results of safe system of work procedures
8. To ensure other tasks are completed when yard and drivers are not busy.
When there are no supervisor duties to carry out you will be carrying out some of our yard operatives responsibilities for example serving customers etc.
Yardman’s responsibilities include
1. Serving customers
2. Loading KRM lorries
3. Picking orders
4. Unloading & checking deliveries from our suppliers
The Individual
We are a family run business with a strong emphasis on teamwork. You will be required to provide support to the team. You will need to have the following qualities;

Key skills
We are a small team committed to customer service excellence as well as the development of our people. You must be willing and able to contribute to this supportive environment, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with your colleagues whilst maintaining a flexible approach.
You should have relevant experience managing and supervising a team working in a fast-paced environment. It would be desirable to have worked in a yard previously.
You will require a forklift truck counterbalance licence as you will be using the machinery daily to move products around the yard.
It isn’t essential to have product knowledge of the heavy side materials; training will be provided.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £32,000.00-£34,500.00 per year
