We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Course Manager who can lead our greenkeeping operation with passion, professionalism, and vision.
The successful candidate will be joining Balmoral Golf Club at an exciting time and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the future direction and presentation of one of Belfast's most respected parkland golf courses.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Greens Committee and Council, the Course Manager will be responsible for the overall management, maintenance, presentation, and development of the golf course and surrounding grounds.
The successful candidate will lead and inspire the greenkeeping team, ensuring the highest standards of course conditioning whilst maintaining efficient operational and financial management of the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop the greenkeeping team.
- Deliver outstanding year-round course presentation and playing conditions.
- Develop and implement maintenance programmes and agronomic strategies.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets and expenditure.
- Manage machinery maintenance and replacement planning.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
- Plan and oversee course improvement and development projects.
- Manage irrigation systems and sustainable resource usage.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop staff.
- Work collaboratively with Club management, Greens Committee, and external contractors.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting procedures.
- Promote environmental stewardship and sustainable golf course management.
Candidate Requirements
We welcome applications from experienced Course Managers, Head Greenkeepers, Deputy Course Managers, or ambitious Assistant Course Managers who are ready to take the next step in their career.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 5 years' experience in golf course management or a senior supervisory greenkeeping role.
- Proven experience within a golf course management environment.
- Strong business acumen with experience managing budgets, resources, and operational planning.
- Demonstrable leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Sound knowledge of modern turfgrass management practices.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop team members.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Relevant qualification in Turfgrass Management, Greenkeeping, Horticulture, or a related discipline.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience managing a parkland golf course.
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates.
- Irrigation management experience.
- Chainsaw certification.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience delivering course development and improvement projects.
