Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential? We are looking for a caring and motivated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Blandford Forum. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide dedicated support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs while working alongside an experienced and supportive school team.
The Role
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to provide personalised support that enables your assigned pupil to thrive both academically and socially. You will play an important part in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child feels valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individualised 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's learning and developmental needs
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and classroom activities
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interactions
- Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
- Assist with preparing learning materials and maintaining an organised classroom
- Support positive behaviour management in line with the school's policies
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and parents to support Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs is essential
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school is highly desirable
- A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is advantageous
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
