Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in specialist installation work within the defence and naval sector. As an Installer, you will work on NOFIRNO fire‑rated cable transits and penetration sealing systems on Royal Navy vessels, auxiliary ships and associated infrastructure.
You will receive full training, mentoring and on‑site support from experienced installers. The role suits someone with a practical mindset, strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn specialist skills in a highly regulated technical environment.
As our naval division continues to expand, there will be opportunities to progress into senior roles such as Leading Hand Installer or Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Support
- Assist with day‑to‑day installation activities for NOFIRNO fire‑rated cable transits and penetration seals on naval vessels.
- Prepare work areas, materials and tools under guidance from senior installers.
- Support correct installation, finishing and cleanup of fire‑rated seals in accordance with manufacturer and defence standards.
Learning & Development
- Learn how to interpret cable transit drawings, penetration schedules and manufacturer installation details.
- Develop practical skills in cable/pipe preparation, sealant application and component fitment.
- Take part in on‑site training and mentoring sessions, including defence‑specific requirements.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow instructions to ensure all works meet CSD standards, manufacturer specifications and naval fire protection requirements.
- Check materials and components with support from senior installers.
- Take pride in delivering neat, accurate and fully compliant installations.
Safety & Site Conduct
- Follow RAMS and safe working practices at all times, including confined‑space and shipboard safety rules.
- Wear correct PPE and maintain a safe, tidy work area.
- Uphold CSD’s strong safety culture and the strict safety protocols of naval bases.
Documentation & Reporting
- Assist with recording installation details, photo evidence and sign‑off documentation.
- Learn to use OneTrace or similar digital QA systems for defence‑grade documentation.
Coordination & Communication
- Communicate professionally with colleagues, naval personnel, other trades and site management.
- Report progress, issues or material needs to the Leading Hand Installer.
Material & Equipment Handling
- Help manage materials responsibly, including storage, preparation and batch control.
- Assist with tool and equipment checks and maintenance.
Travel Flexibility
- Attend naval bases and shipyards across the UK as required.
- Overnight stays may be necessary depending on project location.
Essential Skills & Experience
(No prior cable transit experience required)
- Practical, hands‑on approach to work.
- Good attention to detail and willingness to learn technical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety and professional conduct.
- Reliable, punctual and motivated.
Desirable Qualifications & Requirements
(Training will be provided if not held)
- CSCS Labourer or Skilled Worker card – helpful for supporting onshore fire protection or water/gas‑tight sealing projects.
- Experience in construction, shipbuilding, utilities, mechanical or electrical trades.
- Familiarity with digital reporting systems (e.g., OneTrace).
- BPSS clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) – or willingness to undergo checks.
- SC (Security Check) clearance – highly beneficial; support provided for applications.
- Ability to work within secure defence environments and follow access protocols.

Contract Details / Benefits
- Permanent contract.
- Work primarily at Portsmouth or Plymouth naval bases, with UK‑wide travel.
- Accommodation and subsistence allowance provided when working away.
- Typical earnings £35,000–£40,000 including regular overtime and weekend work.
- Monday–Friday working pattern, with weekend overtime required.
- Company van may be provided (subject to role progression and licence requirements).
- Company pension scheme.
- 20 days holiday plus public holidays.
- Immediate or near‑immediate start preferred.
