Transport Manager
Salary: £40,000- £45,000 per annum
Working Hours: Monday – Friday 07.00am – 05.00pm

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee and coordinate our transportation operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the movement of goods, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and optimising supply chain efficiency. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a professional with strong analytical skills and a comprehensive understanding of logistics systems to contribute to the smooth functioning of our organisation’s transportation processes. The position is suitable for individuals with prior experience in transportation management or related fields.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
- Ensure all operating centre’s vehicles you are responsible for are compliant including but not limited to:
PMI Checks, LOLER/PUWER, MOT Services, RFL and Service Checks
- Ensure equipment checks are carried out on all equipment at every site and within the timescales expected
- When receiving PMIs, checking them against the previous PMI in order to identify any anomalies including:
a. Mileages have been recorded correctly and there are no obvious discrepancies between the current and previous PMI
b. Tyre tread has been recorded correctly and there are no obvious discrepancies between the current and previous PMI
c. Defects have been remedied
d. Defects that have not been remedied have rendered the vehicle VOR and the operating centre isn’t continuing to use the vehicle
e. Brake Roller Test has been carried out at each PMI for PSVs, and they have passed (50% for service brake and 16% for handbrake)
f. Ensure paperwork has been completed correctly i.e. company name, maintenance provider name, date, site, Tacho dates, fire extinguisher/First Aid dates etc
g. PMI declaration MUST be signed
- You will be responsible for any initial disciplinary process for drivers failing to undertake their duties properly. Verbal/written warnings must be signed for and recorded on the driver’s HR file
- Gate checks are carried out each week. This should comprise of 10% of the fleet you are responsible for ensuring that each driver is checked once per PMI cycle
- The appropriate vehicle for the route specification is allocated
- Take lead on driving assessments for new applicants
- Tachograph training is delivered to all successful applicants
- Any new vehicles that arrive must have a PDI before going into service
- Ensure Tachograph Cards are used by ALL PSV drivers
2. Operational Administration, Compliance and Other Duties
- Ensure all paperwork is sent to Fleet Admin in a timely manner (within 24hours)
- Job cards are completed when undertaking ANY maintenance (bulbs, tyres, wing mirrors etc)
- Ensure inter-department vehicle swaps are recorded with Fleet Admin and check in/out sheets have been completed
- PCN enquiries are responded to in a timely fashion
- Fleet Admin are notified of any VORs, the reason why, the remedy and eta on return
- MOTs are scheduled during the 14 week downtime when schools are closed
- Driver cards are downloaded EVERY Monday morning before your shift
- Driver data is analysed and any infringements identified are brought to the driver’s attention
- Vehicle data is downloaded on the last working day of each month
- Vehicle tachograph data are analysed each month and any infringements are investigated
- PCT Driver protocol training is delivered to all drivers. This must be done as part of induction
- Ensure Purchase Orders MUST be used for every purchase
- All Safety Recalls are addressed in a timely manner
- Schedule maintenance (PMI/MOT/Service etc) with internal and external maintenance providers
- First use checks are carried out by ALL drivers every time they are in possession of a new vehicle
- Ensure all drivers sign out for their vehicles daily and log the data
- Ensure adequate stock of spare parts/stickers/vehicle related items in order to be able to rectify defects in a timely manner
- Fuel is accounted for and that a half tank policy is adhered to by road staff
- Drivers have their Driving Licence, Tacho card & DQC. This should be checked when handing out keys – Drivers must be replaced without being in possession of said items
- Ensure The VDC app is used by ALL road staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Passenger Transport Operation
This position requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS)
