Job Summary
Connaught House Specialist Care Centre is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. This role plays a vital part in supporting the overall wellbeing of our residents by providing nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe and welcoming environment, while operating within budget.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in catering and hospitality, excellent leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of food safety and kitchen operations. As Head Chef, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation are consistently maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare varied, nutritious, and well-balanced menus tailored to residents’ individual dietary needs
- Ensure sufficient kitchen staffing levels and prepare staff rotas to meet operational requirements
- Supervise the kitchen team in the safe handling and storage of food, correct use of equipment, COSHH procedures, and cleaning materials
- Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health and safety, and environmental health regulations
- Participate in staff supervision, reviews, and support team members in achieving development objectives
- Assist with the induction and training of new kitchen staff
- Carry out stock checks and order catering supplies from approved suppliers within agreed budgets
- Ensure all food stock is appropriately rotated and stored
- Implement and maintain effective kitchen cleaning schedules
- Monitor and record food and storage temperatures in line with regulations
- Support and oversee Environmental Health inspections
Please note that these duties are not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be required in line with the needs of the service.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Catering or equivalent qualification
- Strong knowledge of Food Hygiene Regulations
- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment
- Good understanding of COSHH and Health & Safety procedures
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory kitchen role
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and within budget
