Mathiesons is a well-established bakery manufacturing chilled desserts and ambient products for the country’s leading retailers. We make high quality, well known Scottish products and supermarket national own label chilled cakes and are looking to expand our team due to new business.
As Area Lead you will ensure production processes are efficient and effective to produce high quality products whilst working to continuously improve our people, processes and operational performance in order to exceed our customer’s expectations in quality & service. Generate multi skilled teams to grow a highly motivated culture and pleasant environment, whilst achieving tight budget demands in a high paced short shelf life environment.
The candidate must be flexible.
The role includes but is not exclusive to:
Health & Safety – Responsible to drive and develop a safety-first culture within production. Ensuring that all processes are being monitored for safety compliance. Continually assess risks prior to accidents, ensuring all Safety Action Reports and Accident Reports are accurately completed and submitted to the H&S Department promptly to reduce risks throughout the business.
Managing change – Be clear in your instruction and give control to your team through the clarity of your communications. Identify areas for improvement and assign to relevant employees to get the task done. Empower and support staff to manage any changes within the factory.
Manufacturing Process Efficiency Increases – Gather information on KPI performance within set timescales. Develop knowledge of performance measurement systems for your area, know and understand the plan and keep your team up to date on their progress communicate any difficulties in achieving early and inform of the steps taken to remedy these issues.
Leadership -To lead by example in behavioural standards. Coach and encourage your team to make the correct decisions and follow the required protocols. Motivate by highlighting achievements and adopting solutions to difficult situations.
Quality-Work closely with the Technical Team involving your team in internal audits and the actions that follow, to lead to Customer audit satisfaction for BRC, TFMS, Asda AAA, Ethical, Morrisons and Sainsbury. Know the expected standards and monitor the quality of products which are being produced within the areas.
Food Safety Controls – control and manage company standards inhandling, preparation, and storage of food in ways that prevent food-borne illness.
Employee Relations- Work closely with HR in managing absence and performance of all individuals in your teams. Responsible for the first stages of the disciplinary process. Engage with staff through clear communication and be open to suggestions, providing feedback from all areas of the business.
Communication - Ensure full and effective communication with your team and with other areas of the business as you pull together all departments to reach the one goal.
Continuous Improvement- Work as part of a team on continuous improvement projects to maximise the business performance using and developing Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principle.
December to mid June 40 hours per week
Mid June to end of November 47.5 hours per week.
