We are looking for a practical and proactive Health, Safety & Projects Coordinator to join Watson Gym Equipment.
This is a varied role combining Health & Safety, planned maintenance coordination and project support across our manufacturing sites.
You will take ownership of the day-to-day coordination of Health & Safety, working closely with managers and employees to maintain high standards, identify risks and make sure actions are followed through.
Alongside Health & Safety, you will be responsible for maintaining our machinery and equipment maintenance schedules and records, ensuring planned servicing, inspections and maintenance are booked and completed when required. You will coordinate this work with internal teams, suppliers and external contractors.
You will also support a range of projects across the business. One of the first major projects you will be involved in will be the refurbishment and development of our new manufacturing site (Still in Frome), working with internal teams, contractors and suppliers to help coordinate works, track actions and ensure Health & Safety requirements are considered throughout the project.
Other projects will include machinery installations, factory improvements, production changes and wider operational improvement activity.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, is highly organised and wants to work in a practical manufacturing environment where they can see the impact of the work they do.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Health & Safety standards across our manufacturing sites.
- Carry out regular workplace inspections, Health & Safety walks and audits and ensure identified actions are followed through to completion.
- Complete, review and maintain workplace risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Maintain COSHH assessments and associated records.
- Support machinery and equipment risk assessments, including PUWER assessments.
- Work with managers to identify hazards and implement appropriate and practical control measures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identify root causes and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain Health & Safety records, registers and documentation.
- Support RIDDOR reporting where required.
- Coordinate Health & Safety training, toolbox talks and refresher training.
- Deliver the Health & Safety element of the company induction for all new starters, ensuring employees understand key site rules, emergency procedures, reporting requirements and their individual Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate records of Health & Safety inductions and training completed.
- Monitor PPE requirements and standards across the business.
- Support fire safety arrangements, emergency procedures and workplace inspections.
- Help develop a positive Health & Safety culture where employees and managers take ownership of safety.
- Provide practical Health & Safety advice and support to managers and employees.
- Monitor changes in relevant Health & Safety legislation and good practice and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Support external Health & Safety audits, inspections and assessments.
- Coordinate contractor Health & Safety arrangements, including reviewing RAMS, arranging site inductions and permits to work where appropriate.
- Ensure Health & Safety actions and recommendations are tracked and completed within agreed timescales.
Planned Maintenance Coordination
- Develop, maintain and manage the planned preventative maintenance schedule for production machinery and equipment.
- Maintain an accurate machinery and equipment register.
- Monitor upcoming servicing, inspection and maintenance requirements and arrange these ahead of their due dates.
- Coordinate planned maintenance and servicing with internal teams, manufacturers, suppliers and external contractors.
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, repair and maintenance records for machinery and equipment.
- Ensure relevant certificates, service reports and contractor documentation are obtained and appropriately filed.
- Follow up outstanding maintenance actions and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.
- Support the scheduling and record keeping of statutory inspections and testing where required.
- Help identify recurring machinery issues by reviewing maintenance records and escalating trends to the appropriate manager.
- Maintain visibility of machinery that is approaching a service, inspection or maintenance date so that requirements are planned rather than reactive.
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors to arrange quotations, attendance and follow-up work where required.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Play an active role in the refurbishment and development of our new manufacturing site, helping to coordinate contractors, suppliers, actions and project timelines..
- Support the installation and relocation of machinery, equipment and production areas as the new site develops.
- Work with internal teams and external contractors to help keep refurbishment activity organised and progressing.
- Support manufacturing, engineering, facilities and wider business projects from planning through to implementation.
- Assist with the coordination of new machinery and equipment installations.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors and internal departments as part of project activity.
- Help coordinate factory layout changes, site improvements and production changes.
- Follow up project actions and coordinate activity between departments to help keep projects moving.
- Obtain quotations and coordinate suppliers and contractors where required.
- Support equipment procurement by helping ensure maintenance, servicing, safety and operational requirements are considered.
- Assist with practical continuous improvement projects across the business.
- Support the introduction of new processes and working practices, ensuring relevant documentation and Health & Safety requirements are in place before implementation.
About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys being visible, practical and involved within a manufacturing environment.
You will be comfortable spending time on the factory floor, speaking with employees and managers, identifying areas for improvement and making sure actions are followed through.
You will need to be highly organised, as a significant part of the role involves keeping accurate records, managing schedules, monitoring deadlines and coordinating different people to ensure work is completed.
You will also need the confidence to challenge where Health & Safety standards are not being met while maintaining a practical and collaborative approach.
Essential
- Experience working in Health & Safety within a manufacturing, engineering, industrial or similar environment.
- Good understanding of workplace risk assessment and practical risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of machinery safety and PUWER.
- Confidence delivering Health & Safety information and inductions to employees.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to manage multiple schedules, actions and priorities.
- Confident communicating with employees, managers, suppliers and contractors.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of actions through to completion.
- Good IT skills and confidence maintaining trackers, schedules and documentation.
- A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
Desirable
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- IOSH membership or relevant IOSH qualification.
- Previous experience coordinating planned preventative maintenance.
- Experience working within an engineering or manufacturing business.
- Experience completing or supporting PUWER assessments.
- Experience coordinating contractors and reviewing RAMS.
- Knowledge of COSHH, LOLER and machinery isolation procedures.
- Experience supporting machinery installations, building refurbishment or factory improvement projects.
- Experience within a CNC machining, welding, fabrication, powder coating or similar manufacturing environment.
The Person
Above all, we are looking for someone who is proactive and organised.
You won't be someone who simply identifies a problem, adds it to a spreadsheet and considers the job finished. You'll want to understand what needs to happen, work with the right people and make sure the action actually gets completed.
Equally, when a machine is due a service in three months' time, you'll be the person who already knows about it, has it recorded and makes sure the right supplier or contractor is booked before it becomes an issue.
You'll also be comfortable getting involved in larger projects, such as helping to coordinate the refurbishment of our new site, working across teams and with external contractors to keep actions moving and ensure Health & Safety remains part of the project from the outset.
This role would suit somebody who enjoys the combination of Health & Safety, organisation, problem-solving and project work and wants to have a visible impact within a growing manufacturing business.

Monday - Thursday 8am-5pm (1 hour lunch)
Friday - 8am - 3:45pm (1 hour lunch)
