About the Role
We are seeking a Part-Time*, detail-oriented and experienced Company Accountant to take full responsibility for the day-to-day finance function of our business, who can confidently manage financial transactions and reporting with minimal supervision.
*Probably 21 hours weekly but will consider some flexibility
In this role, you will be responsible for managing essential financial records, ensuring accuracy in bookkeeping processes, create periodic financial reports and support our payroll function. You will be based at our main office which is at:
Unit 5, Enterprise House, North Hylton Road, Sunderland SR5 3AD
What You’ll Do
- Manage the accounts payable process, including invoice entry and payments.
- Manage accounts the receivable process, including invoice entry and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions and ensure data accuracy.
- Organize and file financial documents systematically for easy retrieval and audit readiness.
- Manage bank balances, maintain cash forecast, and issue periodic reports.
- Manage petty cash processes.
- Complete Balance Sheet reconciliations on a periodic basis.
- Monitor Contract Renewals & Cancellations
- Collaborate with other departments to improve finance procedures and ensure compliance.
- Maintain the fixed asset register.
- Post accruals, prepayments, and other journals for accurate periodic reporting.
- Prepare and present periodic financial reports and summaries for management review.
- Work with external audit to close the Year-end and create the Statutory accounts for submission.
- Support the payroll function
- Prepare data for annual insurance renewals
- Manage all company insurance claims, coordinating with insurers as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience with Sage accounting software preferred but not essential.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable and receivable processes and general bookkeeping principles.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
- Payroll experience is desirable but not essential.
- Experience of general ledger periodic reporting (P&L, CFS, BS).
- Basic knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively within the team.
Desirable
Ideally you will have experience with:
- Sage
- Payroll
- Management accounts
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- AAT qualified / qualified ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) is desirable
