Systems Adminstrator
Working Hours 37.5 hours, Monday – Friday,
Contract Type Permanent,
Location Lytham
About the Role
Danbro is looking for an IT Systems Administrator to join our IT team, helping to support, maintain and develop the technology used across the Danbro Group.
This is a varied, hands-on role with exposure across Microsoft 365, Windows Server, networking, virtualisation, endpoint management, security and user support.
We’re looking for someone who already has a good grounding in IT and wants to build on it. You may have developed your experience through a support or systems role and now be looking for an opportunity to get more involved with infrastructure, networking and the wider technology environment.
You’ll work closely with the Head of IT, taking ownership of day-to-day technical issues as well as contributing to system maintenance, infrastructure improvements and IT projects.
For the right person, there is plenty of scope to learn, develop and take on greater technical responsibility over time.
What You'll Be Doing
Systems & Infrastructure
-
Support and maintain the company’s Windows-based systems and infrastructure.
-
Assist with the administration and maintenance of Windows Server environments.
-
Work with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, permissions and user accounts.
-
Support Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online administration.
-
Monitor systems and help investigate performance, availability and technical issues.
-
Assist with system upgrades, patching and planned maintenance.
-
Support virtual server environments using VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
-
Get involved in infrastructure upgrades, migrations and wider IT projects.
Networking
Networking is an important part of the role, so we’re looking for someone with a good understanding of how networks work and the confidence to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
You’ll:
-
Support and troubleshoot wired, wireless and internet connectivity.
-
Work with LAN, WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS.
-
Assist with switches, wireless access points and firewall infrastructure.
-
Troubleshoot VPN and remote-access issues.
-
Help maintain and improve network documentation.
-
Work alongside colleagues and suppliers on more complex network issues and changes.
Experience with Cisco Meraki would be particularly useful, but isn’t essential if you have a good networking foundation and are keen to learn.
Microsoft 365 & Endpoint Management
-
Administer Microsoft 365 users, groups, licences and permissions.
-
Support Outlook, Teams, Exchange Online and other Microsoft 365 services.
-
Configure and deploy Windows laptops and desktops.
-
Assist with Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager.
-
Support application deployment, device configuration, patching and compliance.
-
Troubleshoot Windows and endpoint-related issues.
Security, Backup & Maintenance
-
Assist with security monitoring and the investigation of alerts.
-
Support patching and vulnerability remediation.
-
Help maintain endpoint protection and security controls.
-
Monitor backup jobs and investigate failures.
-
Assist with system recovery and disaster recovery testing.
-
Follow IT security policies and contribute ideas for improving the security and resilience of the environment.
User & Technical Support
-
Provide technical support to colleagues across the Danbro Group.
-
Investigate and resolve hardware, software, Microsoft 365, account and connectivity issues.
-
Take ownership of support requests through to resolution or appropriate escalation.
-
Set up users, devices, permissions and access.
-
Support joiners, movers and leavers.
-
Help colleagues get the best from the technology they use day to day.
-
Identify recurring problems and look for opportunities to fix the underlying cause.
Documentation & Improvement
-
Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.
-
Keep system, network and equipment records up to date.
-
Document common issues and technical procedures.
-
Contribute ideas for improving systems, processes and ways of working.
-
Assist with technology rollouts and IT improvement projects.
Working Hours
The role is primarily during normal business hours, although some flexibility will be required for planned maintenance, upgrades or other work that is best completed outside the working day.
Why Join Danbro?
This role offers the opportunity to build experience across a broad IT environment rather than being limited to one technology or discipline.
You'll work with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, networking, virtualisation, endpoint management and security, while gaining experience of infrastructure projects and the ongoing development of Danbro's technology environment.
For someone with a solid foundation and the ambition to progress, there's plenty of opportunity to develop your skills and take on more responsibility as you grow into the role.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a good technical foundation and the drive to develop further.
You don’t need to be an expert across every technology listed. What matters is that you understand the fundamentals, enjoy solving problems and are motivated to learn.
Ideally, you’ll have around 1–3 years of relevant IT experience and some hands-on exposure to a Microsoft-based business environment.
We'd Like You to Have
-
Good knowledge of Windows 11.
-
Experience supporting and administering Microsoft 365.
-
Experience with Active Directory and user administration.
-
A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPNs.
-
Confidence troubleshooting hardware, software and connectivity problems.
-
Experience supporting business users and resolving technical issues.
-
A logical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
-
Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
-
The confidence to investigate a problem and try to understand the cause.
-
A willingness to ask questions, learn and develop your technical knowledge.
-
The motivation to take ownership and see tasks through.
Useful Experience
You don’t need experience in all of these, but exposure to any of the following would be an advantage:
-
Windows Server.
-
VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
-
Cisco Meraki networking.
-
Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager.
-
Exchange Online.
-
Switches, wireless networks and firewalls.
-
Backup and recovery systems.
-
IT security and patch management.
The Person We're Looking For
Technical knowledge matters, but so does attitude.
We’re particularly interested in someone who is curious about technology and wants to understand how things work, rather than simply following a set of instructions.
You’ll enjoy troubleshooting, be willing to investigate unfamiliar problems and be keen to broaden your experience across different areas of IT.
We'd expect you to be comfortable supporting users, but also interested in what sits behind their devices – the servers, networks, cloud services and infrastructure that keep the business running.
You’ll be someone who takes ownership, learns from the people around them and wants their level of responsibility to grow as their technical ability develops.
-
25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days with continuous service
-
Performance bonuses
-
Onsite coffee shop
-
Bupa Cash Plan (including dental and optical care) after probation
-
Pension – up to 4% contribution match

-
Flexible working hours
-
Full study support
-
