About the company
West London Bakeries Ltd is home to Little Cake Co, Mariella’s and Coco’s Canapés. We produce and dispatch cakes and canapés from our production kitchen in Bourne End.
We are looking for an experienced Packing Operative to join our team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working efficiently, takes pride in accuracy and can help ensure our customer orders are packed and dispatched on time.
About the role
Your main responsibility will be picking and packing mail-order and trade orders. The role also involves finishing and decorating some of our cakes, as well as occasionally helping with baking and other production tasks when needed.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, maintain a good pace and remain accurate during busy periods.
Responsibilities
- Picking the day’s orders from pick sheets.
- Packing mail-order and trade orders from packing sheets.
- Checking products, quantities and labels to ensure orders are accurate.
- Finishing and decorating cakes to our established standards.
- Occasionally assisting with baking and other food production tasks when required.
- Preparing orders for dispatch and ensuring they are ready on time.
- Keeping the packing area clean, organised and well stocked.
- Carrying out regular daily cleaning and deep cleaning.
- Following all food hygiene and health and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar packing role, ideally within the food industry.
- Excellent attention to detail and a good eye for presentation.
- A working understanding of English.
- Able to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to work quickly and efficiently, particularly during busy periods.
- Reliable, punctual and comfortable with a physically active role.
- Willingness to work additional hours during busy seasonal periods.
Hours and overtime
The normal working week is 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. During our busiest periods, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, Mother’s Day and other seasonal peaks, we require flexibility to work additional hours when needed. Standard hours for this role will be Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm or 8am to 4pm.
We are looking for someone who is happy to support the team during these busy periods and understands that longer days are an important part of the role at peak times.
