Looking for a role with more independence?
Herts Cooling Ltd has been maintaining refrigeration systems across the South of England since 1989. We are a family-run business with an excellent reputation in the hospitality and brewery sectors, supporting customers including Fuller, Smith & Turner, McMullen's and Samuel Smith's.
We're looking for an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join our growing team, covering the Oxford to Portsmouth corridor. You'll operate as your own self-contained area engineer, with the full support of our office team and senior engineers whenever needed.
This isn't supermarket refrigeration or repetitive maintenance. Every day is different, working across pubs, restaurants, hotels and hospitality venues on a wide variety of commercial refrigeration equipment.
The Role
Your work will be a mixture of planned maintenance and reactive breakdowns, including:
- Cellar cooling systems
- Coldrooms
- Ice machines
- Commercial refrigerated cabinets
The role is approximately a 50/50 split between planned servicing and breakdown work.
Most work is within your designated area, although occasional travel further afield may be required.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with at least five years' commercial refrigeration experience who enjoys fault finding, takes pride in their work and can work independently.
Ideally you'll have experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Foster, Williams and Precision, although engineers with strong commercial refrigeration backgrounds looking to broaden their experience are encouraged to apply.
You'll also need:
- F-Gas Certification
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- A professional and customer-focused approach
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday
- 8:00am - 5:30pm
- One week in four on-call (Monday to Saturday)
- Plenty of optional overtime available if desired
- No nights away from home
As with all refrigeration work, summer is our busiest period, while winter offers a steadier pace.
Why Join Herts Cooling?
We're large enough to offer interesting work and ongoing investment in our engineers, but small enough that everyone knows each other. You'll have the freedom to manage your own area without unnecessary micromanagement, backed by an experienced office team who genuinely support you.
If you're looking for a role where your experience is valued and you're trusted to get on with the job, we'd love to hear from you.
