Ecommerce & Digital Assistant
Location: Coffee World, Cambridge
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: £28,000–£32,000 per year, depending on experience
Working pattern: Primarily Monday–Friday. Some weekend availability would be beneficial.
About the role
We're looking for a switched-on, practical and digitally confident person to join our team and help manage and develop our growing ecommerce business.
This isn't a role where you'll simply be ticking boxes and adding products to a website. We want someone who is naturally curious, enjoys figuring things out, notices things that could be improved and is happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing.
Your main focus will be ecommerce - keeping our online shop accurate, up to date and working well for customers - but there's plenty of opportunity to get involved with website development, UX, marketing, reporting, social media, design and general digital/IT projects.
You don't need to know everything on day one. Training will be provided, and we're particularly interested in someone with the ability and enthusiasm to learn and develop their skills over time.
What you'll be doing
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Adding and updating products across our ecommerce website
- Writing and improving product descriptions and basic SEO content
- Preparing and managing product images
- Managing collections, categories and product information
- Updating prices, promotions and discounts
- Keeping product and stock information accurate
- Responding to customer enquiries and helping resolve issues
- Dealing with returns and customer service queries
- Testing the website and identifying anything that isn't working as it should
- Looking for ways to improve the customer experience and website UX
- Creating and updating landing pages and website content
- Producing reports and working with sales and ecommerce data
- Using spreadsheets and CSV files to manage and update information
- Supporting email marketing and campaigns, including Klaviyo
- Supporting social media activity
- Creating simple graphics and marketing materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite
- Supporting SEO and Google Analytics
- Working with Shopify apps and integrations
- Helping troubleshoot general website, software and IT issues
- Getting involved in other digital projects as they arise
The technical side
We're currently working with Shopify and WooCommerce, so experience with either platform would be useful.
You don't need to be a developer, but we'd love someone who is comfortable with technology and wants to learn.
Ideally, you'll have some experience with:
- Shopify or WooCommerce
- Basic HTML/CSS
- Spreadsheets, particularly Excel or Google Sheets
- CSV imports and exports
- Website content management
- Digital marketing and analytics
- Canva, Photoshop or similar design tools
- AI tools and using them effectively to improve productivity
Experience with Shopify Liquid, website customisation, integrations or troubleshooting would be a bonus, but is not essential.
We're much more interested in someone who can learn, solve problems and work things out than someone who simply has a long list of software on their CV.
The person we're looking for
You'll probably be a good fit if you're someone who:
- Is confident using computers and technology
- Enjoys learning new software and systems
- Is naturally curious and likes figuring things out
- Has good attention to detail
- Can spot when something doesn't look right or could work better
- Is organised and able to manage multiple tasks
- Can work independently and use initiative
- Is comfortable working with data and spreadsheets
- Has a good eye for presentation and detail
- Is happy communicating with customers
- Doesn't mind getting stuck into jobs outside their usual area
- Wants to develop their skills rather than simply do the same thing every day
Experience
Previous ecommerce experience is desirable, but not essential.
We're open to someone with ecommerce experience who wants to broaden their skills, or someone earlier in their career who is highly IT-savvy, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
Coffee knowledge isn't required, although an interest in coffee and a willingness to learn about our products would be a definite bonus.
About Coffee World
Coffee World is an established Cambridge coffee company, covering specialty coffee, roasting, retail, ecommerce, training and more.
Our online shop is a significant part of the business, and we're continually looking at ways to improve it - from the products and content we offer to the customer experience and the technology behind it.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop a broad range of digital and ecommerce skills within a growing business, rather than being restricted to one narrow area.
In short
If you're technically confident, practical, curious and the sort of person who likes finding a better way to do things, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't need to know everything already. We'll teach you the systems - we're looking for the right person who wants to learn and grow with us.
