The Opportunity
Salary: £59,991 to £63,411 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time 37 hours per week
Location: County Hall, Chichester with hybrid and flexible working opportunities (occasional overnight stays to support the delivery of the role also required)

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to provide professional expertise and support to the County Council in its role as Administering Authority for the West Sussex Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
You will be joining a high-performing and collaborative team at an exciting point in its evolution—shaped by national developments in LGPS asset management and significant local progress, including the introduction of the Sussex and Brighton Combined County Authority.

As Pensions Accounting and Investment Manager, you will lead the effective management and continuous development of accounting and budgeting processes, alongside maintaining a strong financial control environment. You will play a key role in supporting the ongoing financial sustainability and resilience of the £6.0bn Pension Fund, both now and in the future, ensuring the secure delivery of benefits to our current 27,000 pensioners.
This role is not only about accounting stewardship. You will build and maintain strong relationships with strategic stakeholders, including working closely with the Border to Coast Pensions Partnership as an active partner, helping to deliver the Fund’s responsible and carefully considered investment objectives.
You will bring a mindset of continuous improvement, driving the delivery of efficient, effective, and customer-focused services. This includes championing service enhancements, embracing innovative problem-solving, and leading the management of emerging projects, policies, and strategies.

About you
- Motivated, experienced manager with the ability to lead, develop, and motivate diverse teams and external providers to achieve the Pension Team’s objectives.
- Strong organisational skills, adept at planning, prioritising, implementing service improvements and evaluating outcomes.
- Excellent communicator wide a range of stakeholders, including senior officers, Committee and Board Members, customers, and external provider to foster strong, responsive relationships.
- Flexible and adaptable, prepared to meet service demands and embrace change.

To be successful in the role you will need to:
- Ability to make pragmatic, evidence-based decisions with a broad understand of the service impact, able analyse complex technical, professional, resource or people related issues.
- Strong partnership skills, including co-ordinating stakeholders effectively to achieve objectives.
- Proficient in research, evaluation, and interpretation skills to draw conclusions and plan short to medium term actions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing, persuading, negotiating, challenging practices, and fostering innovative solutions.
- Effective people and performance management skills, providing leadership, guidance, and support to individuals and teams.
- Capable of set and review timescales and objectives to ensure effective service delivery.
