Job Summary
- Assist the Registered Manager in the provision and management of an efficient and effective domiciliary care service provided in a supported living setting in Camphill Community Clanabogan in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements and the organisation’s Policies and Procedures.
- Be responsible for the day to day management of a supported living house setting, ensuring all care and support is delivered in accordance with the individuals’ care and support plans.
- Lead a team in the house setting, cultivating a positive work culture, enabling staff development and effective team working that delivers a high quality and person-centred service.
- Work at all times in a positive and co-operative manner reflective of the organisation’s ethos and values and ensuring a high quality service.
- Positively and professionally represent and promote the organisation and the service provided at all times.
Duties
Supporting People
- Work with the management team, service users, families and other professionals to prepare and implement individual care and support plans to ensure that service users are supported to develop their own skills to their full potential and achieve their goals.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the care and support services are provided to the highest standards in line with contracts, person-centred plans, best practice and having regard to legislation and regulation.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with service users, their relatives/ representatives, other professionals and external agencies.
- Prepare, conduct and participate in PCP meetings with the representative of the commissioning HSCT, families and other professionals and agencies to effectively plan and develop a realistic support plan and ensure that identified key action points are followed through.
- Monitor and report service users’ mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing and identify any need to see GPs, dentists, psychiatrists, chiropodists, etc. ensuring they are accompanied on these appointments if they wish.
- Assist service users with all aspects of their personal and intimate care as required.
- Support service users to undertake tasks of a domestic nature eg shopping, cooking and meal preparation, laundry, house cleaning, etc, and assist service users to maintain all aspects of their domestic lives.
- Assist service users in the management of medical conditions and administration of their prescribed medication, in line with their personal assessment according to CCC’s policy and procedures.
- Recognise and deal with adult safeguarding and duty of care issues, complying with policies and procedures for the Safeguarding of Adults at Risk and Child Protection.
- Show initiative and forge links with community facilities and assist, support and encourage service users to become integrated members of their local community, promoting and supporting social and physical presence in community-based facilities eg educational, occupational, social and leisure.
- Ensure that service users are encouraged and empowered to express their opinions and views in all areas of decision making, both at individual and service provision level, supporting and promoting access to independent advocates when required. Support individuals to raise concerns and make complaints.
- Support individuals to understand and be in compliance with their tenancy agreement.
- Work in partnership with the HSCT representative, families and the individual to plan, coordinate and organise holidays and/or short breaks.
Team Leadership
- Develop and maintain professional, open and honest working relationships with all staff, management and external stakeholders.
- Promote quality standards and provide leadership to the team acting as a positive role model at all times, cultivating a positive work culture and enabling effective individual and team working.
- Rota staff efficiently and effectively and review and amend rotas to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Motivate, support, mentor and supervise support staff and volunteer coworkers.
- Conduct supervisions and back to work interviews following sick leave and report any concerns to the registered manager.
- Oversee the allocation of the full range of duties for each of the shifts worked, and that all necessary administrative work is completed, and ensuring all members of staff provide support in line with individuals’ daily care and support plans.
- Oversee the recording of all service user activities and appointments and the allocation of these activities in line with their support plans.
- Plan and chair monthly house meetings, identify action points, address and resolve issues as required.
- Organise and oversee the induction of new staff.
- Manage and coordinate the responsibilities of volunteer co-workers within the house and support them to fulfil their role and have a positive experience within the Community.
Administration and Process Management
1. Comply with all statutory requirements according to WHSCT policies and procedures and regulatory requirements of NISCC, RQIA and Supporting People.
2. Take responsibility for ensuring that the diary and other records and communication systems are completed and kept up to date.
3. Maintain confidentiality at all times and uphold the General Data Protection Regulations.
4. Ensure that accurate records are maintained with attention to detail i.e. service user personal records, daily diaries, communication books, food, household and petty cash expenditure.
5. Ensure medication management systems are kept in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
6. Ensure systems in relation to the management of residents’ finances and associated record keeping are in line with the Organisation’s policies and procedures.
7. Oversee the sharing of any communications / information in the appropriate manner to relevant persons with due regard to confidentiality.
8. Be familiar and comply with all relevant health and safety legislation. Ensure that procedures to protect health and safety, including risk assessments are completed in accordance with CCC’s policies and procedures and statutory requirements.
9. Have an active role in ensuring the organisation’s objectives are achieved by ensuring the house setting’s key performance indicator targets are met.
Cultural, Social and Home-life Management
- Ensure that the house is clean and tidy at all times. Supervise cleaning staff to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning. Make the shared spaces attractive by use of colour, flowers, plants, pictures, etc.
- Initiate cultural and social events within the house eg birthday parties, story reading, board games, hobbies, drawing, painting, crafts, music and singing.
- Celebrate weekly (eg Sunday) and seasonal festivals within the house through decorations, reading verses and texts, promoting singing.
- Familiarise yourself with the history and ethos of Camphill through reading and also attending training and events on this theme.
- Encourage and ensure individuals’ daily physical exercise eg walking, cycling, games.
- Participate with residents in cultural and social community events.
- Be aware of the weekly timetable so the residents can participate in events and share all relevant information with them.
- Offer help and support to other houses if needed.
- Promote and maintain environmental standards and sustainability eg efficient use of resources, not wasting food or energy, promoting recycling.
- Ensure the meals are of a high quality of nutrition, presentation and enjoyment eg five daily portions of fruit/vegetables, sufficient protein, organic/biodynamic produce is used where possible, reduce sugar and highly processed food, ensure special diets are catered for.
- Oversee the area outside the house to ensure it is swept, tidy and weeded. Report damage and breakages.
- Ensure residents’ clothes are clean, ironed and appropriate to weather and situation.
- If necessary teach cooks how to cook simple basic meals including meat, fresh vegetables and carbohydrates.
Requirements of the Role

5. Participate in both mandatory and continuing professional development training.
6. Be able to work a flexible rota which will include weekends, unsocial hours and night duty.
7. Attend meetings within and outside the Community as required.
Shortlisting Criteria
Essential: Level 3 RCF (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care or allied professional qualification or commitment to undertake Level 3 within 6 months of commencing post. Two years’ experience as a senior support worker within a service that delivers care and support to adults at risk, including those with a physical/learning disability, Autism, acquired brain injury, complex needs. Experience of supervising, guiding and directing staff. Experience of writing specific support plans for service users. Experience of assessing and managing risk and undertaking risk management plans. A good standard of written and verbal communication and reasoning skills. Competent computer skills. Ability to self-manage workload. Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate. Calm and level-headed. Ability to use initiative. Patient, tolerant, approachable, understanding, respectful. Flexibility to be part of a rota of staff support, working unsocial hours, nights and weekends. Candidates must respect the ethos of Camphill Community Clanabogan and work within its values.
Desirable: RQF (or equivalent) Level 5 in Health and Social Care or allied professional qualification. Experience of working with external agencies, other health care professionals and liaising with families. Leadership and supervisory skills. Full clean driver’s licence.
