Overview
Due to expansion we are looking for a HGV Mechanic to help with maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability. In this energetic role, you'll be responsible for diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and conducting routine maintenance on a variety of large commercial vehicles. Your expertise will directly contribute to the smooth operation of our fleet, supporting logistics and transportation efficiency. Hours
Mon - Fri 6am to 4pm overtime before 6am and after 4pm if necessary
Saturdays - optional
Bonus scheme also offered for new trade tba
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of HGVs to identify mechanical, electrical, and structural issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy vehicles, including engine work, brake systems, suspension, and transmission components.
- Utilize fabrication, welding, soldering, and hand tools to modify or repair vehicle parts as needed.
- Interpret technical schematics and electrical wiring diagrams to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.
- Carry out equipment repair tasks on auxiliary machinery such as excavators and forklifts to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain detailed records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections in compliance with safety standards.
- Support the assembly or disassembly of vehicle components during major repairs or upgrades while adhering to safety protocols.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) or similar large machinery with a strong mechanical background.
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, electrical troubleshooting, and interpreting schematics.
- Proficient with power tools, hand tools, and equipment repair techniques relevant to heavy vehicle maintenance.
- Knowledge of electrical systems within HGVs and experience working with equipment such as excavators or forklifts is preferred.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs or maintenance tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional approach when interacting with team members or external clients.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with practical experience in assembly and equipment maintenance is essential.
