Job Description
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Support Worker to support children aged 3–11 years, including those in nursery and early years, within a welcoming primary school in Hereford.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including autism, speech and language needs, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and other additional support needs. You will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning by promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in the classroom.
Working closely with teachers, the ALN team, and other professionals, you will help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support for pupils with ALN and behavioural needs
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual behaviour plans
- Use positive behaviour support techniques to de-escalate challenging situations
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence
- Promote emotional regulation, resilience, social skills, and positive behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teachers, ALN staff, and external professionals
- Support pupils with daily routines, including mealtimes and personal care where required
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress and behaviour reviews
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people (school, care, youth work, or similar settings)
- Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working within a school, alternative provision, or similar setting
- Knowledge of ALN, SEMH, or trauma-informed practice
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, or similar)
- Welsh speaker
