Residential Care Worker, Exmouth
Hours: 39 hours per week (Weekends only), Term time 39 weeks per year
We are seeking 2 weekend Residential Care Workers to provide personalised weekend care support to a 16‑year‑old female who is Deaf with MSI needs and requires weekend short stay care, supported by a stable 2:1 staffing team in her own flat. The young person has alternative care during the week and attends the Deaf Academy College. This position is weekend during term time only. You will play a key role in offering meaningful respite, promoting independence and supporting her wellbeing.
You will be:
- Building a trusting, consistent relationship
- Communicating with the young person in spoken English and will learn BSL
- Supporting the young person with emotional regulation and sensory needs
- Encourage confidence and autonomy by supporting independence & daily living
- Cooking, meal planning and shopping
- Household routines such as tidying and laundry
- Encouraging the development of life skills
- Following care plans and risk assessments
- Maintaining a calm, supportive, structured environment
- Assisting with behaviour support and emotional wellbeing
- Liaising with parents and professionals as required
- Completing necessary records and reports
- Supporting medical and physical needs where required
This role includes supporting the young person in various activities:
- Swimming and gym sessions
- Outdoor walks and local community activities
- Sensory‑based and creative activities
You will accompany her and provide safe, person‑centred support in line with her communication and sensory profile.

Shift Pattern:
- Tuesday or Thursday: 14:15-15:15 1 hour weekly CPD
- Friday: 14:00 –22:00 (sleep‑in)
- Saturday:07:30-22:00 (sleep‑in)
- Sunday: 07:30-22:00 (sleep‑in)
Every 3rd weekend the student will return home, along with all school holidays being non‑working

- Commitment to working towards: Level 3 Residential Childcare diploma and British Sign Language Level 3 (training time provided)
